Subject: Lucy Broadwood show, Guildford 16/5/09 From: Surreysinger Date: 03 Mar 09 - 10:38 PM Now that the "Listen and You Shall Hear" (The Life and Work of Lucy Broadwood 1858 - 1929) show has received it's first two outings in Woking (at Surrey History Centre, home of Lucy Broadwood's papers) and Lewes (the Royal Oak folk club) Ralph Jordan and I will be presenting it at St Nicolas Parish Church Hall, Bury Street, Guildford (in the centre of the town) on Saturday 16th May, 2009 at 7.45pm. The show tells the story of the life and work of Lucy, as its title suggests, using words and narrative from her diaries, letters and published works, and songs and tunes collected by her or her family. I provide narration and vocals (and also play my part in a couple of duets on Maccann duet concertina), while the occasional interjection and accompaniment on guitar, bouzouki or Maccann duet concertina are provided by Ralph Jordan (Ralphie of this parish). If you are within reach of Guildford, and would like to find out more about the life and times of this rather neglected but very interesting woman, please come along - we would love to see you. If you want further information about the show, please have a look at the Myspace page for the show or pm me on here. The show is on this occasion being presented as a fundraiser for Guildford Choral Society, and tickets , which cost £10 each, can be obtained from Guildford Choral Society c/o 20 Guildford Park Avenue, Guildford ,Surrey GU2 7NJ. Please make cheques out to Guildford Choral Society, and enclose SAE. Irene Shettle |

Subject: RE: Lucy Broadwood show, Guildford 16/5/09 From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 05 Mar 09 - 06:55 AM The show was great fun and very instructive at the Lewes Royal Oak folk club recently. Mr. Jordan's accompaniment to that version of Long Lankin was riveting in an unexpected way. Valmai (Lewes) |

Subject: RE: Lucy Broadwood show, Guildford 16/5/09 From: Surreysinger Date: 24 Apr 09 - 01:40 PM Refresh on this one. We have just over three weeks to go before the show goes out again on 16th May (before it has a few more outings in June and later in the year). It would be great to see any of you there. If you are likely to see me in the next three weeks I have a small supply of tickets that I can sell on to you - otherwise tickets are available through the Choral Society as shown in the original posting .... or will also be available on the door on the night. |
