Subject: New song on my myspace
From: Jayto
Date: 04 Mar 09 - 12:59 PM

I thought I would let you know there is a new song posted on my myspace page. It is from a session I worked Sunday. The singer/songwriter is a good friend of mine named Pat Ballard. He and I have been friends for years. The song is unmixed and just a reference cut for an upcoming CD form Pat. I played electric guitar, banjo, and mandolin on it. I really like the song and Pat is probably going to be mad that I put it up but here it is anyway lol. I like this version so I wanted to share it.

Huh?

Jayto, I liked it a lot, but I LOVED some of the other material on your MySpace. "Nine Pound Hammer" for example -- a stunner! Thanks.

Thanks I will add more when I have it. I have another from that session I may post for a day or so. I don't really want to leave it up too long becuase I am not sure how the artist will feel. On it I play mandolin and electris guitar. I tuned the guitar down real low. My big E was down to a C. Promise Land and the other one I am going to post (Sailors) was recorded as an experiment to find direction for the songs for an upcoming CD from a guy named Pat Ballard. Pat is from Ky and is a popular DJ in western KY. His father is the state rep for my district. He is a great guy and great writer very talented. He and I go back together preety much my whole life. My family has always been real politically active so I pretty much grew up at political rallies with Pat. It is great to finally do a project with him. It is almost like recording with a brother. I will let you know by starting another thread when I post the other song. We are going back in the studio this Sunday. Also April is coming up and I will be recording with fellow Mudcatter Bankley. I will post some of the recordings we do from those sessions. I am really excited about that project as well. I am starting 3 more projects wuth different artists but I am not sure what style or anything they will be. I know one of the artists but the other 2 I have never met or heard. After those I am starting 2 projects with some people that are close to me. Alonzo Pennington is my cousin and also a former national thumbpicking champ (1 of 4 in my family) as well as international thumbstyle champ. He and I are doing a project later this Spring. Then I am doing one with an amazing guitarist named Shane Amar. Shane won the international horizon award for most promising guitarist 2 yrs ago and he is amazing. He and I go way back. We both were sponsored yrs ago by a bicycle trick team (extreme sports stuff) and we toured together for yrs doing trick shows and all. He left the team and started playing guitar and I followed a few yrs later. I started the team when I was 12 so we have been together for a while lol. After that I am hoping to start my own project. I will keep you posted.

Oh yeah if anyone wants to see what olddude did with me playing St.James Infrimary here it is

JT playing St.James Infirmary

Here is where someone else posted me playing a gig opening for country singer T.Graham Brown at the Merle Travis music theater

Live footage from Merle Travis music center

He also added me playing my original insprired by the death of my cousin in a mine explsion from the same gig

My original Ghost of Appalchia live footage

Someone else added this taped footage of singer/songwriter Michael Harris, my brother Joey Oglesby on banjo and me on mandolin performing Michael's song Black Lake Bottoms. The river behind us is the Green River. It is the Green River that John Prine sings about in Paradise. Paradise (or where it was) used to be about 10 miles from where this footage was filmed.

Me on mandolin on Black Lake Bottoms

I know I am shameless lol no I am just proud and surprised that people actually want to post me on there. Plus I have alot of people emailing and sending me PM's wanting to know where to hear more so here are a few links.

LOL thanks I am glad you enjoyed it. The guy playing mandolin is a friend of mine from Nashville Jeremy Holt. He is a session cat and has a couple of bands The Jeremy Holt band and The Holt Brothers. The Holt Brothers is a bluegras band he has with his brother. The Jeremey Holt band is more country and country/rock. He is a very busy guy as well but he caled me the other day about forming a side project sort of a folk/rock type thing. I really can't say who the other guys wanting to do the proect is right now but one plays for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the other is a former member of the Grateful Dead. If it does come together (I don't see how becuase everyone is so busy right now) I will let you know and post some of the music on my myspace. Jeremy is the protoge (he hates it when people say that but that's what he is lol) of Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule,...etc. That is how he came to Nashville Warren brought him up.
I am glad you like it though and thank you man
