Subject: RE: Worlds of Trad March 2009 Upload From: Fred McCormick Date: 05 Mar 09 - 07:05 AM Sorry, folks, I said there were three apologies in my previous message and three apologies I meant. Unfortunately, I forgot one which should have read:- Apologies for the lousy sound quality of part of last month's broadcast. Dunno how it happened but some gremlin got in and changed the bitrate sampling format to its lowest setting. No worries. I've got in and changed it back. |
Subject: Worlds of Trad March 2009 Upload From: Fred McCormick Date: 05 Mar 09 - 06:47 AM Hi folks. Just to let everyone know that the March 2009 edition of Worlds of Trad Internet Radio has been successfully uploaded and is at this very instant pouring forth plenitudes of pristine musical perfection. Before telling you about this month's cornucopian concoction though, three apologies. First. The February upload got so delayed that it's ended up as the March upload. Long story, but I've been up to my padoozkies in marches, protests, lobbies and demos, following the sudden announcement that my local council is planning the decimation of its library service, along with most of its other leisure facilities. All being well though, next month's sizzling sensation will occur on Wednesday 1st April. In the meantime, Roy Acuff, Roosevelt Sykes, Blind Willie McTell, Louis Jordan and Kate McKenzie hop aboard on some of those good old American railroads; Howlin' Wolf, Ida Cox and Louis Armstrong's Hot Five confess to a teeny weenie weight problem; and Fields Ward, Willie Scott, Joe Heaney and Dan Dowd wax lyrical about the amber nectar (after several glasses of the amber nectar?). And Kokomo Arnold is waxing lyrical, not about drinking the stuff, but about making it. Jean Ritchie and Kelly Harrell revisit an old British Ballad, and we revisit that splendid band from Co. Louth in Ireland, Lá Lugh. Plus, quite a few listeners are introduced to the wonderful singing of Sally Sloane from New South Wales. Quite a few listeners will be back for more. There's a rare performance of a rare ballad from the Stanley Brothers; Hank Williams, Rev. Robert Wilkins, The Paramount Singers, Professor James Earle Hines and Black Billy Sunday try to show us the light; and if you're not averse to a bit of hard labour, there's a chain gang song from Mississippi, and a rock breaking song from Dorset. Yes, that Dorset! All that plus the usual circumnavigations of the globe and Britain and Ireland and everywhere else I can think of. To hear the programme, visit http://www.live365.com/stations/oneworldmusic , and click on the yellow speaker button. If you haven't logged on you'll need to follow the onscreen instructions to download the station player. Then wait a moment until the ads clear, press the yellow PLAY button and after a short delay the station will be on the air. Then if you press the green button to the right, you can set Worlds of Trad as a preset. That will save you having to search the next time you listen in. Oh, and there's that third apology. Those bleep bleeping CIA adverts are still reoccurring from time to time. If you hit one, don't shoot the PC. Just turn the sound off, count slowly to thirty, turn the sound back on, and all will be right with the world. Fred McCormick. Fredlive365@aol.com . March 2009 Worlds of Trad Playlist.
