Stewie: brilliant. Thanks a million for doing that. Irritating and ramshackle eh? Well, that's the Boat Band for you!

Greg, I have a copy of Folk Roots #78 December 1989. At page 47, The Fiddlin' Boots Barfield & The Boat Band album was given a single paragraph in a review by Nick Beale of a batch of 13 disparate cassettes.

The Boat Band (from Cheshire) mix up a lot of ingredients from Africa, the Caribbean and North America. The music is spirited and would manage perfectly well without the incessant 'gosh, what a good time we're having' yelps and an irritating line in nonsense vocals. The proper vocals (female harmonies) have a quirky charm, contributing to the rather ramshackle, backwoods air of the whole exercise. Not essential, soul-tearing listening perhaps, but quite fun and a very good recording (allegedly done in a shed).
.

That is all there is.

--Stewie.

I am trying to chase up some early Boat Band reviews to get together stuff for a CD reissue. The review index says it was in fRoots(probably Folk Roots actually) issue 78. Don't suppose anybody's got a copy who could email me a scan of the review? I would love to see it, even if it's offensive( a lot of people found our ealier stuff excessively weird!)
