Seriously - you can contact us on pigsear@mac.com if there's anything doin'!

Thanks.

Oh yes I remember the Penny Dreadful - and I think it was Graham Maisey who did some great cover designs for it???

Wendy, let us know when your bash is. Pig's Ear are venturing to Suffolk during the summer; in the unlikely event that the dates work we'd love to gatecrash. Being as Pig's Ear is all Pete's fault anyway. If Waddon hadn't made Wednesdays Worthwhile, Grant and I wouldn't have met and the Rule Family Folk Band would never have been.

Gawd, Pete, don't you have a lot to answer for???

Sue

All the best Pete

Hello,

While I was up in the loft this morning I got sidetracked and discovered an old copy of a folk diary from the 1970 somethings called "The Penny Dreadful." I was one of those who was involved in producing it, but I had forgotten I still had a few copies left. What was fascinating was not only the number of clubs there were in SE London in those days, but also the theme of the articles. Is folk music dying? Where have all the audiences gone? I smiled quietly to myself at that point and thought, "Nothing much changes, does it?"

Does anyone else remember "The Penny dreadful?"

Best wishes,

Peter

Hello Travelling Singer!

Are you the same one who guested as Travelling Singer from Sussex? If so, welcome to Mudcat! Good to have you aboard.

I regularly visit our local singaround sessions when time allows but I'm not sure about the radio. The Wayland Community Radio has a regular folk programme, and I have appeared on that a couple of times. They have recently gained their full time license from Ofcom, so there will probably be more folk in the future!

Thanks for asking,

Best wishes,

Peter

Hello,

I'm glad that people were able to listen to the piece on Radio Suffolk. They did us proud with a very decent plug for the music as well as the event.

We are lucky to have a thriving scene in our part of the world.

If you are ever in East Anglia, look us up!

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi

Don't know if you remember me but I was Rip Rippingale's 2nd wife. Havn't heard anything of you in yonks but I now live in Coventry. I remember well the weekend we came down for the weekend as you had asked Rip to do support for a concert in a huge marquee for the Scouts. The Ian Campbell folk group were headlining and then because you wouldn't let me play I decided I'd better sing so did my very first singing in public with Rip. ( Nothing like jumping in at the deep end. )

The next day we went to Southend for the day, went on the pier where you did a recording in a booth, can't remember if it was you and Rip together.

By the way did you ever learn to drive.

Oh happy memories.

Brenda

What a brilliant idea. It is not clear if the invite is open to both of us. If it is I'll get some 240 grit paper on to the old banjo strings de-rust and bingo. It would be nice to put faces to the mudcatters.

just an idea...Peter and Folkwaller
In the summer Billy and I have " home" concerts in a marquee in the garden, Billy does a bar b q, everyone brings a bottle and we invite someone to do a concert. Very informal and lovely people. How about it Peter? We are not far from you and we could invite mudcatters who live within a car drive to come and swell our numbers.

Yes....you are right....I enjoy taking folk out into the community. This has lead to some amazing and challenging moments....like singing in a boxcar on a very cold public holiday and doing the interval entertainment at a disco!

Best wishes,

Peter

----------is only too willing to give guitar lessons to anyone who may be interested, even the lady at the cafe says she wants to learn. If its of interest Ely was fantastic, Kevin Dempsey and Joe Broughton, do they come any better.
Pete and I did play at the school we sat on the playing field with a group of pupils and Pete sang and entertained, they sang as one, I listened. It was wonderful.
So, I'm getting to know Pete and if you would like too as well, buy his cd it is just great.
Tomorrow we are being recorded by Suffolk Radio at the cafe or at least Pete probably is, I just listen.
After 40 years Peter Twitchett is still a folk singers folk singer and long may it be so.
Can I have cash this time Pete.

--------playing together at one of the local schools soon. A school teacher friend runs a weekly lunch time session and has invited the two of us to entertain we're looking forward to that. Peter is also a regular at the local Friday afternoon cafe folk session he believes as I do in taking folk music to the people and slowly but surely we are winning them over and we have a very nice folky afternoon sipping coffee and tea. Peter also----------sorry, got to get ready to go to Ely.

-------------local sessions, the Greyhound at Flempton I think. He sang a sad song about a minstrel who had a broken string on his banjo. At the end of the session I introduced myself and asked Pete to play the song again for my recorder so I could go away and learn it, I haven't done so but the point I make is that he was only too willing to ablige. He was very friendly. Since that occasion we meet fairly regularly, he sings, I listen and we may even be ------------------sorry, someone at the door.

Hello Wendy,

I haven't been to the museum now for far too long. I must make a return visit. I am, however, assured that the clock has recently been overhauled and still has the procession of disciples every day at 4 p.m.

It has fond memories for me too. One of the benefits of being on the 194 bus route was that it was easily accessible to us!

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi Pete,
Horniman rag! My dad met my mother in Horniman museum, she was 14, he was 17. They married in 1943 when they were both in the RAF, last year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, he is 89 and mum 85.
Do you remember the clock in the museum, I think it was at 4 oclock each day the 12 disciples process past Jesus, all of them bow to him except Judas who turns the other way!It was one of my favourite days out, the other was Crystal Palce park and the statues(huge) of the dinaseurs.
