Subject: tenor guitar strings and gauges From: folkyshaun Date: 08 Mar 09 - 06:46 AM How do. After messing about with tunings on my newly purchased tenor guitar i have settled for gdgd as one i like. Any suggestions as to string gauges? The ready made sets of tenor strings dont seem to suit and i keep breaking them. Surely normal guitar strings would suit or are tenor strings different in some way? |

Subject: RE: tenor guitar strings and gauges From: Jim Lad Date: 08 Mar 09 - 02:02 PM The string gauge is directly related to the pitch you're after. e.g. CGDA strings will not serve you well if you use them for say DGBE tuning. There are charts for such things. I'm sure some of the instrumentalists here can point you to one. Now if you get sick of that thing, I'll look after it for you. |

Subject: RE: tenor guitar strings and gauges From: PHJim Date: 08 Mar 09 - 03:23 PM I'd use guitar strings; a 1st string for the 1st string, a 3rd string for the 2nd string, a 4th string for the 3rd string and a 5th string for the 4th string. The first and 4th strings would be tuned 2 frets lower than their intended pitch and the other two would be at their intended pitch. Until today, I have been logging in as GUEST,Jim, but since there are at least two of us using that name, I figured I'd better become a member. |
