For 29 years Ron Olesko has provided a radio show called "Traditions" that has featured the masters of folk music for everyone to enjoy. Many of our mudcat masters have been featured on his show also. He has worked these many years to keep the music that we all love alive and in the media though his radio show, his writing, his interviews, his lectures. A scholar of traditional music Ron will answer questions about artists, and songs and stories. In short Ron has done so much to support traditional music and the artists that I thought he should be recognized for all he has done.

If anyone has some good Ron stories here is a chance to put him on the spot :-) Seriously Ron thank you for your work and know that we love you for it

I endorse what you said about Ron and his dedication to keeping the music and musicians alive. He has a terrific show which I listen to often and enjoy his opinions here on Mudcat even though he is wrong when he says that New York bagels are better than those from Montreal.

Thanks, that is humbling.   I'm just a fan with too much time on my hands and I'm a student, not a scholar. I've been lucky to be in the right place at the right time.












...and New York bagels are better!!!!   Montreal bagels taste more like cake. :)

I'm on every other Sunday from 3 to 6pm Eastern Time on WFDU-FM - www.wfdu.fm.   I started the show in 1980 and when my kids came along in the early 90's, Bill Hahn joined me as co-host and we alternate Sundays.

I will be on this Sunday 3/15.   Thanks again for the kind notes. My head is swelling.

Way back when, maybe 2000? Ron asked Mudcatters to send him songs, stories, etc. for a special Christmas show he was doing. I cannot find the thread for that, but I did find the one I posted of the story which I read for his show that year: Golden Cobwebs. I was very honoured and excited to be included and was thrilled when we listened to the program. I've always enjoyed the show when I hear it. Thanks, again, Ron!

In all my days I've heard a lot of comments about Met fans, but this is the first time I have EVER heard ANYONE mention a scarcity of support. Last season, we had the second highest total attendance in majors and the third highest attendance in 2007. Take a look at our attendance figures over the years, some supposedly "major league" cities would sell their soul to have such support.

Comeon folks, if you are going to knock the Mets, you can certainly do better than that!!

Great radio show, great guy, wonderful concert promoter and a pleasure to work with, knowledgeable and passionate about folk music and other worthy causes...but as a Red Sox fan, I just can't get over that Mets thing.

On the bright side, he's not a fan of the American League team from NY whose name I cannot bring myself to say. Yay Ron!

I thought there was something unbelievably intelligent and God-fearing about you. Now I know why. I've been a Pittsburgh Pirates fan since the 50's. My crowning moment was when I was at Columbia University in 1960, the only Pirate fan in my dorm, when Bill Mazeroski hit the series winning home run against the Spankees. Sometimes life is sweet.
