Meth freaks with no attention span adore 90-second punk songs played at 200 bpm." I'm not a tweaker but I am a recovering adrenaline junkie so... lol. Punk was the greatest to skateboard, jump ramps on anything that moves, basejump, whatever. Of course if you could freefall to an hour long jam band song that would be pretty cool. I would love to find what height you would have to fall from lol. Musical skill def goes to jam bands. Punk though is pure emotion. Most of the ones I listened to had a message with it (some good some bad). All in all I get bored and tired of the jam band stuff pretty quick. I can hang for a song or two if they are really good but after that I am done. Especially some of the live ones I have seen. I mean how long can 2 guitarists switch up playing the same pentatonic scale before you scream ENOUGH. I may have musical ADHD but man they just take it out too far and long man. I heard one band last year in Louisville Ky that I shit you not played a 10 minute intro to a song that lasted at least another 20 minutes after the vocals started. When the singer started singing I was surprised because I thought it was going to be an instrumental. They did a wind up for the vocals to come in and I thought it was the wind up for the ending of the song. I am not kidding one bit. |

Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: Barry Finn Date: 15 Mar 09 - 03:59 PM I just got finished listening a jam band, "live" for the past few hrs. My son & his friends have been playing upstairs all afternoon. I don't really care for the music they play, all rock. For the past 30 + yrs I've been listening tp all kinds of folk & the more I find & listen to the more I realize I've only scratched the surface Barry a "yank" |

Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: michaelr Date: 15 Mar 09 - 12:45 PM It all depends on what meds you're on. Meth freaks with no attention span adore 90-second punk songs played at 200 bpm. Potheads can appreciate slight modulations in a 18-minute Terry Riley composition. When you're on LSD, all bets are off regarding time perception. |

Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: GUEST Date: 15 Mar 09 - 12:08 PM I am not into Jam Bands man. I am from the US but not a "yank" lol. I have wondered the same thing. I don't get the jam band thing. There is only so long I want to hear the same song no matter how good it is. I don't want to sit and listen to a band for 5 hrs and only hear 2 songs. I have friends that worship jam bands but not me. I dig punk big time and have for yrs. Think about the difference there lol. A fast hardcore punk song lasting 1 or 1 & 1/2 min vs a med tempo jam song lasting 10 to 15 min (if not longer) lol. So not all of us ovr here think that highly of jam bands. Some have great musicians in them but come on I don't have to be shown that every songs for an hour at a time. Creativity and great musicality rock redundancy and dragging out way too long sucks. cya JT |

Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: meself Date: 15 Mar 09 - 11:31 AM 'I'm a "yank" and have been up for hours' Sorry - I didn't intend to imply that Americans are lazy lie-abeds! |
Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: maeve Date: 15 Mar 09 - 09:58 AM My goodness: the phrase "stoner jam bands" is an oldie! I'm a "yank" and have been up for hours. I have liked some Alman Brothers pieces, and disliked others. There are many kinds of music in the world. I wouldn't expect to like them all, no matter the country of origin or period in human history. I hope you enjoy your musical exploration. maeve |

Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: meself Date: 15 Mar 09 - 09:10 AM I would fit in the middle category. |
Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: alanabit Date: 15 Mar 09 - 09:07 AM I don't think "Eat A Peach" is for me either. However, I did buy "Brothers and Sisters" when it came out and was rewarded with the classic instrumental "Jessica" and a likeable country song "Ramblin' Man". The Allman Brothers really were a breathtakingly homogenous band with a supreme level of musicianship. They also had a real history of various types of roots music. Unfortunately they were very poor songwriters for the most part. Some people would rather hear weak songs played by brilliant musicians. Others would rather hear great songs played by average musicians. On the whole, I would probably fit into the second category. Oddly enough, Chuck Leavell is now the Rolling Stones bandleader. |
Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: meself Date: 15 Mar 09 - 08:52 AM And I'm not sure that many of the "yank mates" who "hold stoner jam bands in such high esteem" are on this (folk music) website - but another hour or so and we shall see ... |

Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 15 Mar 09 - 08:18 AM ok.. gotta be fair, the last 2 or 3 tracks weren't to bad at least some kind of structure and melody... but why do you yank mates hold stoner jam bands in such high esteem.???? |
Subject: RE: whats the most deadly boring ? From: Rasener Date: 15 Mar 09 - 08:16 AM I always felt Punk was the next nearest to Rock and loved it. Glam Rock makes me smile now. Used to have red Garry glitter type boots, with a red suit with wide flairs and kipper ties. Glad I don't have any photo's .LOL |

From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 15 Mar 09 - 07:47 AM doing the same well practiced and precisely studied set of songs every time you play them in public any time and every where for over 30 years... or jam jazz funk improvisation on a folk theme for hours on end when everbody else has gone home..
