That one on 26th March is actually Newton *and* Noss Village Hall, which serves the villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo in South Devon - just in case anyone gets confused...

West and SOuth?? Hell, that ain't West nor South. I thought we might have a chance of crossing trails around here in San Diego. Now That's West and South by Anglo standards, at least in the Northern hemisphere.

Best wishes to you and to the Henrywoods and Parry-Williamses for your Bow and Sidmouth gigs... sorry it's too far from Harrow and the day job to get there!

Since this thread is (again) at the top, could I say that, to me, this sort of constant and un-remitting self-promotion is a dis-incentive to go and see the artists concerned, rather than the reverse.
And that, is why I would never consider actually joining Mudcat, rather than reading and lurking.

Blimey, Tom, you can't win, can you... Don't advertise and no-one will know what you're up to - advertise and the "unremitting self-promotion" puts people off coming to see you!

What a bugger.

Dear Grumpy
Surely?....
The internet is there for us all - it is primarily a great source of 'information'.
Whenever someone presents information, it is useful to 'somebody'.
Thank you for informing us that this particular information (that Tom presented) is if no use to you.
I'm sure someone will find that fact informative!

Tom (like so many) is an independant artist - no management, no agent, no record company
- and, therefore, no resultant publicity machine working on his behalf.
The fact that he (and others) post on here (and other such public forums) where ALL are entitled to publish, is indeed 'informative'
- helpful to so very many.
Such effort on his part helps keep many a venue (in tandem with their own efforts) publicised - and therefore functional! - alive!

Whilst I respect you have every cause to voice any opinion you hold, I cannot help but question your purpose in such negativity?
...To ask what contribution you make to keep UK folk music alive? (you may well - and I'd rather hear about that than such uneccessary put-downs).
...To point out that there are many who are only too pleased when an artist 'bothers' to make such efforts (one simply hasn't the time to continually 'look-up' individual artists own websites all the time for updates - if that's a possible counter-argument from you) - such efforts keep us 'informed!
... to close with the observation that, your wee snipe at a hard-working lad (with no option but to post his own gigs wherever is legally possible)
makes you appear... well,....er,... nothing but
...grumpy!

Wishing you health, happiness and joy in your life - Duncan (McFarlane)

Oh heck. I thought this was going to be advance notice of something akin to The Rapture ... which I'm going to avoid like the plague if I see it comin'.

Still, best of luck with that whole carbon footprint thing. At least it's for a good cause.

Hi Tom ,
I'm a bit confused looking at your gig list for March and your intention to "pack it all up".
I can only assume that the other Months don't reflect this level of activity.
Others who have never tried to earn a living from Folk music ,should note that apart from travelling - take your own stab at Tom's booking fee and that's still a lot of hard work .Throw in the expenses, involuntarily late nights , 10 different sleeping places it honestly isn't easy.
Viewed over-simply it looks like you only have to play (say) 2 x 45 min spots, but there's far far more to IT THAT that.It is bloody hard way to earn a living - when he's done those 10 days he'll be knackered .
Best of luck in your decision-making Tom and metaphorically don't be afraid to blow your own fine trumpet anytime and anywhere you want.
Best Wishes
Betsy.

Yes it's a shame Tom started this thread, it means we now have the chance to catch him at

Devizes Folk Club The Lamb Inn, 20 St John's St, Devizes. SN10 1BT on the 30th March.

Otherwise we wouldn't have known.

See you there Grumpy?
;-)

And well said Hip-flask Andy.
