Hi, I'm going down to Oxford folk festival this coming weekend. Has anyone been before? If so where are the best folky places to go? also, anything you would deem as essential viewing whilst there???

Cheers

I went in 2006 and 2007. Good sessions in "Old Tom" pub, near Carfax,& a Sunday lunchtime French session in "Far FRom The Madding Crowd" down an alley near Watersons----but the venue might have changed now ! Best sessions I guess are /should be in the "Half Moon" (go over Magdalene Bridge, bear left),----could find Ian Giles,Les Barker, et al in there.Oxford Castle is good & now a venue for dance displays.Best bet is to find Bill McKinnon and follow where he goes !!

I hope that OV had a good time.

We just dipped into the fringe - Derek sang at the (well-attended) folk club on Friday night and we found Bill McKinnon and Ian Giles in a nice lunchtime session at the Old Tom when I got to Oxford yesterday. It was a lovely day for watching the dancers - quite a nice day for them to dance too.

The Kate Rusby concert was sold out.

Kitty

Not been before. Sat ceilidh was very good, run by Oxfolk usually 2nd Sat in Kennington.

The room was heated and it was not the best in that respect. Authorities - particularly semi-gov like Unis seem to think there is a H&S regulation issue if rooms are too cold. This, in UK, is false, the guidelines are about being "appropriate" and at the IVFDF one poor lass had a siezure - which if my recollection is correct - is more likely in excessive temperature. And since there is a regulation (legal) that the venue must provide water for drinking, you would think the link to de-hydration would be obvious.

Anyway Cock and Bull were fine, the tunes finished at odd times without warning but if that was the only gripe I think we could say there was no problem - musically.
