We've been playing on Thursday nights at the Golden Fleece, Capel Road, London, E7 for a few months now. We could do with a few more melody players and perhaps even a singer or two. We play mostly Irish music but would welcome new players of any British Isles based traditional music (or it's transatlantic derivatives). Would any English Country Dance players with no strong aversion to Irish music like to come and explore the commonality of the traditions or swap a few tunes?

I'd love to give it a go - I'm up for most sessions - but don't know how long the journey from Sussex would take. As it happens, I intend to take a fortnight's musical holiday sometime in April/May and just float around the countryside trying out clubs and sessions in different areas. I haven't plotted the itinerary yet, but E7 could waft me usefully into Kent and thence up to East Anglia, across the Midlands and up Manchester way...

It could take up to 2 hours I suppose - not really worth the trip for a couple of hours playing. But if you're in the area or passing through pm me or Liz the Squeak and we can give you directions.

Its a damn sight easier to get the other way out to Maidenhead on a Thursday Paul ! Though I suppose I COULD get to E7 on Pubic transport and probably have a half hour walk to get home !1

Hi Paul,

Might be able to join you on 11 November if it's on that night, when I'm down from Scotland for work and staying overnight in West Ham.

Good to see you and Liz again the other week.

Richard

Is this session really still ongoing? I was told it had finished by someone that worked there about a year ago. Seems the players weren't buying enough product????.

We moved out for a while but went back when a new licensee took over who is very pro-music. There is also a guitar jam on Fridays and an open mic on Sunday afternoons. There was never any accusation that we didn't drink enough beer, or whiskey for that matter!

At least it doesn't look like a bad hand at scrabble.
