Damn. I really really wanted to get to that good and early this year, and get into the sing and enjoy the music - but I appear to be playing for Bishop Gundulf at the Kent Life Museum at 1130. Damn, damn, and thrice damn.

Wish I could come, but I shall be "in charge" of a singing workshop with Chris Coe in Guildford on the day, so short of obtaining a clone it's not going to be possible. Hope it goes well!

Frittenden Festival - Sing, dance and play!

As we're coming close to the big day, I'd just like to

Frittenden Festival - Sing, dance and play! is a small village-based folk music and dance event featuring performers deeply rooted in
the traditional singing, dancing and music of Kent, Essex and Sussex.

All the events take place at Frittenden's Memorial Hall and the popular Bell & Jorrocks pub, and the events include a concert, a barn dance and workshops, as well as open music sessions at lunchtime and in the evening.

Performers include the star Essex singer Annie Dearman with her partner Steve Harrison, Kent's own Andy Turner, and from Sussex The Mighty Quinns with Tom Moore.

Also on the bill from Kent are a host of singers and dancers including Nigel Hobbins, John Morgan, Marian Button, Peter Collins, the Wealden Ramblers (Roger Resch and Bob Kenward), and long time Kent resident David Campbell, Kerry Fletcher, Rosie Davis, and Julie and Gavin Atkin, and from other counties not too far away we have cello-singer Tom Redman and fiddler Tim Brooks.

Rabble Folk Theatre will perform their version of the traditional Kent village Hooden Horse Play, and the evening barn dance will be led by caller Chris Pitt and the nationally popular Kent-based country dance band Florida.

Three workshops on Saturday morning are designed to cater for many different interests. The stepdancing workshop is for everyone of any age - there's no need to have danced before and you'll be learning a skill for which Kent used to be famous, while the song workshop taking place at the same time will look at Kent's heritage of old songs and the old-fashioned singers who sang them. At the same time Alan Day will lead a music and discussion session for concertina enthusiasts in the bar of the Bell & Jorrocks, beginning with the theme of Concertinas the future?.
