Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: GUEST Date: 17 Oct 11 - 12:45 PM I don't often come on this site though I am signed up so to speak and I don't really know how it works. I hope I don't exasperate in my mudcat inexperience but I would like to mention the "Songs And Tunes At The Beech" on Wednesday nights at 8pm. The first and third Weds are singarounds and are popular. The second and fourth are tunes nights with any fifth Weds being a mix. The singarounds are in the front snug but the tunes nights are in the larger room. This is because the numbers are larger and with instruments. I love both but particularly love the tunes nights which have resulted in a "Beech Band" comnprising of whomever turns up or has ever turned up. We have now done several ceilidhs with a usually large band with our resident caller and melodeon player Rob Phillips. If you have never experienced playing jigs, reels, polkas, morris tunes,et al and play an instrument, and want to learn, then go down to the Beech Inn on those dates above. But go early. They are fantastic. |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Les in Chorlton Date: 19 Nov 09 - 01:17 PM Mmmmmmmmmmm good oint. After that incedent with the gas leak I wouldn't be surprised f the pub had gone and the bike and the fireplace were left! cheers L in C |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: GUEST,Phil [as in Sandra and] Date: 19 Nov 09 - 08:49 AM It sounds as though we missed a lot having to go early.... What;s the betting the bike's still there on Tuesday? P |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Les in Chorlton Date: 19 Nov 09 - 05:48 AM As usual a bit of a one off. Thanks to Ged, Phil, Alan, Phil, Sandra, Gordon, Claudine, Jeanette, Norman, Steve, Ken, Mike and Martin and Peggy who came and sang for the first time. A special thanks to whoever locked the mountain bike to the seating. It remained a complete mystery to the staff and an excellent but of jokes including the repeated and badly played "A Bicycle made for two". And a further special thanks to the three young women practicing 'Manc open throat wailing' in the bar. I hope they continue this practise perhaps in Liverpool L in C Looking forward to Tunes next Tuesday and our second birthday for Songs - Dec 2nd. |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Les in Chorlton Date: 18 Nov 09 - 05:21 AM So, Wednesday night, a bit wet? A cosy evening in The Beech songs mostly but not ................... L in C |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Les in Chorlton Date: 08 Nov 09 - 01:39 PM Weird experience Thursday morning - he was in my paper shop! He didn't recognise me as I kept my head down! I am sure your correct Dave, we do have a good collection of people who sing songs well. I trust others who haven't been along will come and join us on the third Wednesday of the month Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: GUEST,Dave Bishop Date: 05 Nov 09 - 08:37 AM The Beech seems to be developing into one of those sessions where really good singing is starting to happen a lot. I have this theory (borne out by previous experience) that if a few good singers get together a very positive thing starts to happen and they encourage each other to improve and some become very good or even outstanding. I think that we should all give a vote of thanks to Les for starting this (and he does really, quite often, make a little bit more sense than the drunk did last night). What was he on about? The drunk I mean, not Les! I think that it was something to do with the War - if he appears again don't mention the War! |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Les in Chorlton Date: 05 Nov 09 - 05:19 AM Thanks to Ged, Norman, John R, Helen, Sue, Bob, Ann, John, Alan, Brian, Nigel, Dave, Ken, Martin, Phil for songs and tunes and Barbara and Dave for audience support. Another grand night of songs, tunes, rain and that drunken bloke who made less sense than I do - we always get one don't we. The first Wednesday in December (2) will be our second birthday so I erge everyone who ever came or intended to come to put Dec 2 in their diary and also November 18 for a chance to try out a few songs. Not forgetting Beginners Tunes on Tuesday 24th November. Thanks again Les in Chorlton |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: John Routledge Date: 04 Nov 09 - 07:28 PM A Fine Night indeed. Very uplifting. |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Phil Edwards Date: 04 Nov 09 - 06:58 PM But always remember, if you give nowt we'll take nowt. A caution for us all methinks. That was one fine night. I remember thinking that Alan's "Bold Riley" was the kind of thing I go to the Beech for, and mentally correcting myself immediately - actually it was the kind of thing I get out of bed for. Stellar performances too from Dave and Sue and Anne and John and, and... Hasta la two weeks' time, and I expect to see everyone present (or I shall want a note from your responsible adults). And maybe one day the beer will match the singing! |
Subject: RE: Songs and Tunes at The Beech, Chorlton, From: Les in Chorlton Date: 04 Nov 09 - 05:13 AM Tonight as it stands Mr Cringe - a song from yourself maybe or a strong influence in choruses. Now alpaca me banjo and be off sheepishly to The Beech L in C |

Martin sang for the first time in about 3 years an played some excellent tunes on the English concertina. Lots of good songs many about the Sea and plenty of dead people. I apologise for bringing double glazing into Roll the Old Chariot Along but you spend a lot of time on your own in retirement and it did seem funny at the time. I suggest at least a story-telling at the next Singaround! L in C |
