Subject: BST Confusion From: nutty Date: 29 Mar 09 - 05:50 AM The clocks went forward 1hour today (in the UK) which puts us on British Summer Time ... but where are we now in relation to the rest of the world and Mudcat Central in particular? |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Susan of DT Date: 29 Mar 09 - 06:28 AM Daylight Saving Time began at the beginning of March this year. Mudcat is on Eastern Daylight Saving Time. When we are both on "summery" time, I assume the usual 5 hour difference is maintained. (I think it is 5 hours) |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Dave Hanson Date: 29 Mar 09 - 06:28 AM I'm still in West Yorkshire. Dave H |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Little Robyn Date: 29 Mar 09 - 06:30 AM You're exactly 12 hours behind NZ while we're also on daylight saving but in another week we will change back. 6:30am Mudcat time is 11:30pm NZ summer time and 11:30am British summer time. Robyn |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Rasener Date: 29 Mar 09 - 06:35 AM Well we won the Formula 1 Grand prix. We were certainly on the Button there. So its 6 hours difference today then? |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 29 Mar 09 - 07:09 AM I think everybody jumps ahead an hour, and BST (British Summer Time) = DST (Daylight Saving Time) so the same differential would be maintained. Firefox has a neat little add-on-thingy called Fox Clocks which you can download for free, and it lets you know what time it is anywhere in the world at the click of a curser. (Going to leave that Freudian typo mis-spelling in, because if there's one thing I do NOT need, it's yet more time-eating distractions from my computer.) I used to hate Daylight Saving Time when I was a kid. Meant I had to go to bed when the sky outside was still bright blue and it always felt like being cheated. |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 29 Mar 09 - 07:11 AM The gospel according to FoxClox says it's still 5 hours between us and the hub of the known universe that is Mudcat Central. |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Mar 09 - 07:14 AM Whe we are on GMT (Winter) we are four hours ahead of Mudcat Central tie for a couple of weeks in the spring (They change a bit earlier than us) With Briih Summer Time its back to Five Hours difference . |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: JeffB Date: 29 Mar 09 - 07:22 AM Some years ago the Premier of Queensland was an oafish peanut farmer. When the question of whether the State should adopt daylight saving came up in Parliament he spoke against it on the grounds that it wasn't fair to wake up the cows for milking an hour earlier, and that his wife thought the extra hour of sunlight would fade her curtains. |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Little Robyn Date: 29 Mar 09 - 02:45 PM It's very dark at wake-up time these mornings. I can't wait to get back to normal time but NZ has delayed daylight saving this year and I'm guessing it won't stay light at 6:10am for very long. Then we'll be heading for winter again while you guys start enjoying summer. I don't care if my curtains fade - I like the sun! Robyn |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Rasener Date: 29 Mar 09 - 03:53 PM This could be interesting and it depends who is on Mudcat and takes notice of this thread. I am from the UK and the time now is 20:53 Where are you and what time is it there? |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Ebbie Date: 29 Mar 09 - 04:04 PM I'm in Alaska and the time is 12:04 ADT |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Rasener Date: 29 Mar 09 - 04:20 PM So thats 9 hours difference |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Snuffy Date: 30 Mar 09 - 11:52 AM "Bed in summer by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) from A Child's Garden of Verses, published 1885 In winter I get up at night, And dress by yellow candle light. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day. I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree, Or hear the grown-up people's feet Still going past me in the street. And does it not seem hard to you, When all the sky is clear and blue, And I should like so much to play, To have to go to bed by day? |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: George Papavgeris Date: 30 Mar 09 - 11:58 AM The Villan, I am in Chesham and I am 56yrs and 54 days old; where does that put me in relation to Faldingworth? |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: nutty Date: 30 Mar 09 - 12:01 PM Surely not George ,,,, you're never that old!!! |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: George Papavgeris Date: 30 Mar 09 - 12:12 PM OK, I lied, it's only 53 days... |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: George Papavgeris Date: 30 Mar 09 - 12:12 PM It's down to Nessie, she keeps me fresh. In a fridge. |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Dave Wynn Date: 30 Mar 09 - 02:33 PM It's all a con. The damn government steals an hour of my life in Summer and then returns it (without interst) in Winter. I want that extra hour in Summer not Winter! |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Mar 09 - 02:38 PM UK to Mudcat time is MORMALLY Five hours , but as they change over earlier than us it is only FOUR hours for a week or so each end ! |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 30 Mar 09 - 03:53 PM "Mormally" ??? 'Bout says it all for Mudcat Time ;-) |
Subject: RE: BST Confusion From: Rasener Date: 30 Mar 09 - 04:00 PM George Thats makes you a lot younger than me. Am I jealous? Yes i bloody am. Anyway you are about 2 hours from Faldingworth which might put you at 3 hours in front of Mudcat. Does that make sense. No, its all aload of double Dutch. godverdorie Les |
