The song is printed at the online Canadian AngloBoer War Museum site. It is maintained by Goldi Productions, a small Canadian company, which produced the much-honoured 4-hour film, "The Great Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902: The Canadian Experience," shown on Canadian television and on history channels and programs in the English-speaking world.

The composer used the pseudonym 'poet Laurier;' not otherwise known (nor is he/she likely to be made known until Harper does get the troops home.

Some Canadian troops don't agree with the aims of the Afghanistan war. It reminds me of some songs I have heard from WW2, like "Onwards to the Po" and its anti-British verses, and the hand-distributed verses about My Brother Sylveste (who killed 40,000 Indians).

My feeling too. It has much more the ring of someone who's not there imagining what a soldier SHOULD think, than of a soldier who is there expressing his own views. I won't say more though, until we find out - who did write it?

Who wrote that song, Q? Do you know that it comes from someone in the Canadian contingent? It's not impossible, I suppose, but the lyrics don't sound like any soldier wrote them?

Lines like "Our general promised us a killing spree" and "There's nothing here that's left for us to bomb-a" are both blatantly false and dishonest, and uncharacteristic of any Canadian soldiers that I've ever met. It's not that soldier songs aren't often disrespctful of authority (think of "I don't want to join the Army") but these lyrics just don't sound right.
