Maglan's son sent me a message to say she was in the UK and would be in touch.

That's all I know but I expect she will be at a festival in the near future. Maybe Upton or Chippenham. And maybe the Somers FC (Fri Albion Worcester)

Thanks Mr Red. I was thinking about Maglan a couple of days ago and wondering how she is, so this is good to hear!

Strange co-incidences? ESP? I was thinking about her a couple of days ago too.

Isn't Princess Dinizulu regarded as an authority on Zulu music, and is remembered as a great composer, musician and singer?

From the Herefordshire archive of the Ledbury Reporter (2006):

Concert to mark his life
From the archive, first published Monday 3rd Apr 2006.

A CONCERT will celebrate the life of a fund-raising Herefordshire folk fan.

John Noden will be remembered at Putley Village Hall from 3pm on Saturday, April 8.

Mr Noden had returned to England last year from St Helena for medical tests then, despite severe discomfort, braved the three-week journey by boat back to St Helena with his wife Maglan - Princess Dinizulu.

Ten days later he passed away peacefully at their home on the island, which he had grown to love in his retirement.

John lived and worked for many years in Hereford and made many friends in hospital radio and the Hereford Big Band, among others.

`Prof John', as he was known in folk music circles, and Maglan performed as the duo Saints and Sinners and played at many folk festivals throughout the UK.

They both gave considerable time and effort to help local charity events with their fine performances.

The funeral was held on St Helena and the islanders, known as Saints, turned out in force as he had become a well-respected figure with his own show on the local radio station.

With Maglan's blessing, old friends and family members will meet for an afternoon and evening of music and variety finishing with a ceilidh in Putley.

No formal programme has been arranged but a good turnout of singers, musicians and dancers will be present to give him a send off.

No food or drink will be available so people are invited to bring their own.

The event is free but donations can be made for the purchase of medical equipment for use at Jamestown Hospital, St Helena.

Just had a letter from her princessliness. She is in the country and settled for the duration.

She is planning to be at Upton (probably commuting from Pershore) and the Slip Inn (1st Thurs) in May. Sojorns to Bournemouth and Spain are planned. And she will be holding court at Sidmouth.

I had a call from Bendigo to ask me to post Maglan's thanks to all her friends and visitors during her stay in the UK.

She is back in St Helena and is improving healthwise.

Dear Maglan. Our princess. I remember the days of the '80s well and my time in the midlands with Maglan and John. Rest easy Maglan

I remember her - I think from National Folk Festivals and maybe Sidmouth. Never came across anything about St Helena without thinking of her.

Very sorry to hear this news - deepest sympathies to the family. Maglan (and John) brightened the Sidmouth song sessions immeasurably.

I think perhaps this thread should be retitled with an obit prefix?
