Let's send the Nags off with a bang!

We are going to have to try extra hard since I already know that Cap'n'ella cannot come, nor the Barden of England, both having gigs, nor Abdul the Bul Bul since he will be elsewhere doing his impersonation of the Sheikh of Araby (don't mention the Crusades), and that I fear will deprive Gordon of his usual lift.

Can any reader able to give me email addresses (current) for Richard Matthewman or Marian Button or Mark Lawson or Bernard his cousin or Derek Moore, Brian (who used to sing with him in Debri) Keith Alexander Dave Leigh, Daz and Man, or any of that crew please do so?

Can anyone put the three line whip on the sausage-smuggler and/or Pat Debs and Sarah?

Oh, can anyone sing "Drink the Barrell Dry" - or "Bring us a barrel"?

How about a tent, VT- or some festivals do indoor camping.

Don't let anything get in the way of festivalling if you can at all help it!

I used to travel with my little tent on the train- someone will pick you up at main line stations if you don't have a car- just ask mudcatters!

And you can steward to save on festival costs too :0)

After the April 19th sess at The Nags Head. There plenty going on that you can get to. And Iam sure RB if he can will arrange another sess later on in the summer.
It may not be the last one at the Nags yet? We will have to wait & see what RB can arrange and fit himself in to do it.(Jeans and a Sweater usually) Theres 2 Knockholts remember has well.

We had to get rid of our tent. My arthritis won't let me sleep on the ground and so exposed. Well not if I want to be able to move at all the next day.

Knockholts not in our calendar except maybe to visit Saturday daytime.

That's a shame VT. Knockholt is the highlight of my year and the best time is the night time, singing around the campfie! I had a lot of trouble with my own health/camping and bought a huge tent that I can walk into and stand up in, as well as a good raised campbed that does the trick! Still hope to see you both saturday afternoon - better than nor at all!

I have seen double thickness air beds that must be over a foot thick when inflated, maybe more, which ought to assist with insulation from the cold damp earth, and Kev the Klogs and Dilligaf's new tent permits KK to stretch his arms overhead. But then I know who has to blow up and erect these things, even if size does matter.

We had a walk in 2 room tent and a substantial air mattress as well as very good sleeping bags. I still suffered. I just can't physically cope with cold and damp these days.

We will hopefully have car and caravan sorted next year, but Chris will still be teaching the weekdays, so may leave me and caravan on Wednesday evening and return on the Friday for the weekend.

I have been practicing Ride On all morning on the Tanglewood and its coming on o k .
Its a great song with easy chords ,Great Lyrics and I find me self racing through it. I have always enjoyed it when its been sung at The Nags sessions.
But I have been lazy in the past and never bothered to learn the song in full. Now I feel confident i can join in with everyone else , Keep up and above all sing the right lyrics.

My Polish friend Chrissy said" You strum the rhythm far to fast,you should slow it down a bit.
I said well thanks very much for that advice Christy Moore. But at the end of the day I am a strummer and the songs supposed to be about galloping Horses, "Use your imagination",

Mandolin scale in D fits in with the Loops has the loop[s are in D I will bring them to Knockholt.
one plays them toasted cd on a CD player and the mandolin chords and scale In D fit in great. Enjoyable practicing. with drums and bass to accompany you.and you find your way in D up and down the mandolin.

Ok, here we go. Bishop Gundulf was the Bishop of Rochester. He designed the cathedral - or a large part of it. As far as I know, if didn't actualy have his own Morris side. The most frequent spelling on the website is without an apostrophe. I am sure I remember Blossom telling me that the apostrophe disappeared somewhere in the mists of time, so that the absence of the apostrophe is now traditional.

My latin is very rusty, but I think sigillum is a neuter noun meaning a seal, and therefore in that form is nominative, vocative, or accusative.

Episcopi is genitive and means "of the bishop".

Gundulfi is the genetive form (I think) of the name Gundulf or Gundulfus and is therefore in apposition with Episcopi.

So the phrase means "Tne Seal of Bishop Gundulf" and the representation of it in a circle is I suspect a representation of that seal.

Latin scholars please correct if necessary.

Hoff/BG - I don't know which website you are looking at for Bishop Gundulf's Morris, but I have just looked at it and EVERY time our name is mentioned - it includes an apostrophe!! the exceptions are for email addresses, such as my own - [e-mail] - as you are not allowed to have them in email addresses. Odetta - had a little chiropractic care to eliminate e(bass) string buzz (reshape of the saddle and adding shims to raise the action), new lighter guage Newtones, a strap button added and resticking of pick guard.

I miss her and cannot wait to be reunited this Sunday. RB's little Lamaq is nice but just not enough there to hide behind.

In the UK - all forward facing seats in motorhomes and campervans must have seatbelts if you want to use them as passenger seats. Seats that face in to centre of van need no seatbelt.

I did a check when we were looking to buy campervan, because I wanted to use as MVP when hauling family and friends around.

I don't know if that answers your question.

The information below relates to the fitting of seatbelts and the wearing of seatbelts by adults. There is specific legislation, introduced in 2006, concerning the carrying of children in vehicles.

Session was a brilliant swan song for the season. Love that No Worries. Must pay keen attention to Brian when he plays guitar and to Marion's stunning harmony.

Kev the Clogs providwed some tingle factor at least twice as did Carrie's fiddle playing.

Was great to hear Pierre and Fisheye again. Fishey please do not put up that Wade in the Water video unless you can cut out where I botched it.

Thanks to RB for organising a lovely meet - and a welcome back to his home. It circled round a bit swiftly initially but built plenty momentum by later in the afternoon as more folks arrived. Too many good performances to number, and unfortunately I can't recall some of the names of the songs which stood out for me, but I was especially struck by Marions Bodhran playing.. And Fiddle Birds rendition of Desperado was really touching for sentimental reasons :)

I could hear Kev The Clogs from out side in the beer garden brilliant. Im pleased also that Val find me Raccoon hat so amusing when I started sodding about with it towards the end of the session.

Finally I would like to add that im somewhat saddened that this was the last session until Autumn but I know we all see each other again at Sweeps and at Knockholt.

Well, thanks to all for coming.

Every single one of Crow Sister's songs was totally rivetting, Annie was spot on: itinerant Irish locals well gabbed by her songs (and Fay caught me well with Danny Boy!).   Essex Girl I think was grabbing the crowd even better than usual, and likewise Fisheye either was singing out better or was benefitting from the slightly smaller attendance to get well heard. Pete's guitar was ringing out well (and the hat an instant hit). VT nearly gave us all religion (!!). Sheppey Paul was running well to form, and as already said above Brian and Marion were excellent. Melodeonboy was his usual self-effacing self with his quiet and delicate rendering of the trombone song, and Cari continues to rescue and refresh violin tunes that others ruin.

However, selfishly, I liked best the two biggest walls of sound - Byker Hill and Lowlands - both of which seemed to be in 16-part harmony, and I mean harmony!




I will be trying to assemble a suitable date for a one-off BBQ in the pub garden over the summer. Watch this space for that and also for the deathiversary.

Nice to see y'all, albeit briefly. Van Morrison seemed to have received a five star rating from all the broadsheets. Basically the line up for Atsral Weeks was the same as last year's gigs minus two, plus two cellos and a viola. I have seen him plenty of times with much better muicians. Should anyone bump into him anywhere offer him my suggestion of halving the musicians and paying them double. It'll cost him the same but be better.
