Subject: Sing with CMR in Lewes
From: Saro
Date: 30 Mar 09 - 06:15 AM

Hello! On Sat. April 25th Moira, Carolyn and I will be doing our "The Way Through the Woods" show at the wonderful Lewes Saturday Folk club (http://www.lewesarmsfolkclub.org) - and we hope some of you will come and join us (singing and speaking parts available!). There's a workshop during the day, during which we'll rehearse the show (you get music and words beforehand if you've signed up), and then we all put on a performance in the evening. We had a great time at Whitby and Sidmouth last year with about 80 people in the cast each time. I don't suppose we'll have that many, but we'd like as many as can fit in!! And then if yo8u have any energy left for the next day, we'll be running a harmony workshop, so you could make a whole weekend of it. Contact Valmai at the Club if you want to book in for either event...
All the best
Saro
PS More information about the show, plus photos and some clips from previous performances are on the CMR website www.cmr-harmony.org.uk

We're looking forward to a terrific couple of days and evening with Craig Morgan Robson. Full details and booking form are on the Lewes Saturday Folk Club website.

As well as words and dots, Sarah has provided a CD with the harmony parts sung separately for people who'd rather learn by ear. You get a copy of this as well as the paperwork when you book (but not before, because it makes a substantial package to post).

Our new room in the Elephant & Castle has wonderful acoustics and is a joy to sing and play in.

Valmai (Lewes)

The Way Through The Woods : The Show

The Way Through the Woods show is a performance of linked songs and readings which lasts just under an hour. Most of the songs are designed to be sung in harmony by all the singers, a few are sung by Craig Morgan Robson with the cast joining in the chorus or refrain. The emphasis of the show and the workshop day is on singing together as a group, but there are two short pieces which would be suitable for allocating to a soloist or small group. Members of choirs or groups might like to bag these for themselves. On the list of songs are indications about which songs should be kept as "whole group songs" and which could be treated differently.

Singers

The show needs a minimum of 12 singers (recent performances have had casts of up to 80). Singers need to be able to learn a part either from CD or from music, and maintain a part while singing with others who will be singing a different part. Craig Morgan Robson will help with this. The songs do not have a very big range, nothing higher than Eb at the top and Bb in the bass.

Readers

The show also needs at least six readers (who may also be singers) including two male voices.

Participants will receive:

¨      A CD with all the harmony parts for the songs

¨      A set of song words with performance notes explaining the arrangement

¨      A copy of the sheet music if required

¨      A set of readings with performance notes

A copy of the outline script and running order
