Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: Art Thieme Date: 29 Apr 09 - 07:32 PM Jacqui.c Your mention of "In The Mood" reminded me of the time my old uncle's cow got into his ink supply. After that, it 'mood indigo.' Art |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: TRUBRIT Date: 28 Apr 09 - 10:18 PM Art - I just opened this thread and saw your name -- generous Judy sells other people's CDs at house concerts besides her own -- I am right now listening to your Chicago Town and Points West CD which is wonderful (as Is the Judy Cook cd I bought but that is in the car so I don't have the title). Judy - I walked off with Art's CD and wrote the check and didnt give you the check! - paid for the concert and your CD) so please pm me an address to mail the check. Both cds worth every penny. |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: SINSULL Date: 28 Apr 09 - 09:16 PM Art, Having you at or in one our concerts would be an incredibly special event. When it happens, wear a leather coat preferably black. SINS |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: Art Thieme Date: 28 Apr 09 - 08:01 PM Judy is pure taste. Her chosen songs--the graphic tales told in them are always vivid and mesmerizing. Judy and Dennis, I sure would've loved to have been there with you. I do hope you both are well. Thanks again for making our CD happen!! Love, Art |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: jacqui.c Date: 28 Apr 09 - 07:35 PM Hi Judy. Kendall says that 'Sentimental Journey' and 'In The Mood' were the biggies from 1940. |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: GUEST,Judy Cook Date: 28 Apr 09 - 02:59 PM Home in Maryland safe and sound. Many good memories of friends, songs, food, strange goings on, and a ride in Dolly singing 1940's songs. Thank you one and all. |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: Jeri Date: 27 Apr 09 - 09:31 AM 'Worms up my nose...' --with breakfast. I wonder is someone tipped Bob off about SINS's banjo player problem, or maybe it's just a natural banjo player self defense mechanism. Forego the Deliverance jokes, the usual 'drooling-as-a-level' joke It was extremely good to see Dennis & Judy and hear Judy's wonderful songs and voice. We all become her confidants for the evening, and half the fun is just basking in the warm glow of her personality. |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: Bat Goddess Date: 27 Apr 09 - 08:30 AM The "new" face was Bob Frost who usually wields a banjo (he, perhaps wisely, did not apprise Mary of that fact until he was leaving) and had left it in the car. He's been Tom's musical co-conspirator since the '70s and has known Judy and Dennis for a looong time (though not quite as long as his conspiracy with Tom). He also forgot to sign the closet so, I guess, he'll HAVE to come back! Lovely evening! Lovely breakfast, conversation and even some more singing yesterday morning. Linn |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: maeve Date: 26 Apr 09 - 01:07 PM Awww, I missed a Tami poem? Thanks for the encouragement, Jacqui and Mary. maeve |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: SINSULL Date: 26 Apr 09 - 12:46 AM Maeve is so talented. I wish we could manage a CD of all her own songs. Judy is a treasure. She loves her music and it comes across in each song. Dennis' harmonies are beautiful. It was a very special evening but alas no brownies. We shall try to do better next time. So many wonderful songs - it so hard to remember them all. Titanic was wonderful, lots of great harmonies. The sly maiden who craved what was between the young man's legs and made off with his horse. Buckskin Bag Of Gold. Lorena (SIGH - that has to be the most beautiful love song ever written). The song circle that followed was a lot of fun. Tami's poem about her mother is so moving. Once Jeri has a tune for it you will all get to hear it. Fun night and now to bed. |
Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: jacqui.c Date: 26 Apr 09 - 12:00 AM We've just got back home. What a great evening. We've waited quite a while to get Judy here for a house concert but the wait was worth it. Lots of wonderful songs and a wealth of knowledge as well. Good food, good music and very good company. Who could want for more. Oh, and by the way, Maeve sang one of her own songs - beautiful song and a beautiful voice. |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: GUEST Date: 25 Apr 09 - 11:36 PM Thank you for another wonderful evening of music. Singing Star Judy was her usual gracious and warm-voiced self, Dennis slew the ice cream dragon so graciously the driver never took offense, Mary was the hostess with the mostest welcome and the barest apple trees, Jacqui rephrased an order as a request, and Kendall was Kendall, which is better than most folks manage. I loved seeing several familiar and one new-to-me face. Jeri, ranger1, Bat Goddess, Curmudgeon, Kathy, Bob? Barry, "Ida Lewis" is a lovely song and Judy does it justice. Forgive me please for leaving right after Judy's second set. I am sorry to have missed the singing that followed. Love, maeve |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: Jeri Date: 25 Apr 09 - 03:58 PM OK, since I'm being ignored (people having too much fun, methinks), I'm going to bring whatever. You can never have too much wine, and I'll stop off and buy a gallon of Ripple. (I've never tried that Mogen David stuff. Is that any good with chicken?) |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: jacqui.c Date: 24 Apr 09 - 11:05 PM We've just come to the end of a great evening with Judy and Dennis, involving a wonderful song swap (more songs I need to learn!), after supper at a very good buffet restaurant near us. Judy and I went out to the thrift shops this afternoon and came back well pleased with our bargains. A very good start to what will be a superb weekend. |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: Jeri Date: 22 Apr 09 - 07:43 PM The pig song? Dunno what it's called. It's the 'and then, Mick walked through the door' song. Actually, I'll enjoy anything you sing, and I look forward to hearing songs I don't know as much as those I do. (Was that Donald Rumsflop? 'There are songs we know we know and songs we know we don't know, but there are also songs we don't know we don't know, and songs we don't know we DO know, and songs we used to know but now don't know, except we don't know we don't know them until we sing them... there's more, but I don't know what it is.) |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook @ House Concert in Portland ME From: jacqui.c Date: 22 Apr 09 - 04:35 PM that would be good - but not between about 7.30 and 10.00 EST as that would interrupt Judy's performance. We usually get started with the pot luck supper about 6.00pm, which would be 11.00pm over there, and still early enough, maybe, for some of you to be compos mentis. |
