Yup 10 days mate.
Not sure which 10 as was still under discussion when we left.
Despite the rain what a bloody great 5 days of music,beer and mates.
Hopefully with ten days to choose from we might get a few more calling in after Saddleworth or en route to Durham,Scarbro etc.

Errrr no Mr V am not one of the organizers,as you know I have difficulty organizing a few notes and words to fit together.
I just volunteered to try and make the dates available on mudcat and maybe find a few answers to any queries.

I don't have a say in the organizing of the Staithes weekend.
It isn't a festival with paid performers more of a gathering of people who like sitting in the pub,campsite,seafront etc playing listening and having a good time with friends old and new.
In fact I have been told not to use the "F" word in connection with it although music and song of that persuasion is warmly welcomed and greatly enjoyed.
I will put your p.o.v. to Tony tomorrow and let you know via this thread of any outcome.
Errr of course I wont be able to post on here for a few days so it will be Monday or Tuesday next week most likely.

Sorry Tim Leaning but I don't understand what you mean in your second from last posting?

Why can't you just choose a different weekend so you don't clash with Saddleworth FF. Me and many folkies I know from Yorkshire would love to come to your festival but not at the expense of missing Saddleworth.

Is there no way that you could opt for a different weekend?

I'm probably wasting my breath bud but if it could be changed it would really please a large clump of hard core folkies who all know each other and who love to go to all the best festivals. And I'm sure that Staithes would become a firm favourite.

Well I drove by today and the village is still there!   Looking forward to that week so much, but if anyone fancies a rehearsal for the BIG WEEK, there is a half day session in the Capt Cook on the first Sunday of every week, and the next one is a bank holdiay too!   Personally, I'm away to Retford to visit the brood that week-end, or I'd be there meself !!!

A broodje haring met ui - its my favourite from when I lived in Holland. So much so, that whenever we have been back to Holland, to visit my wife's parents, they had it on the table waiting for me.

Hi everyone - got my i.d. back at last, thanks to super-efficient Joe Offer.   

Got new machines today - ordered on Thursday, postie tried to deliver Friday but I was in shower and missed him. Collected from mail office today (Saturday) Hows that for service? Will get them fitted on over the week-end and let the man have his mini-Grover back.   Was SO worried in case I broke that one too !!! So the Kermit-caster is back on the road, or will be by tomorrow night!

See you at Staithes if not before, as Pete said, the Cleveland Way footpath passes right through the village - but to quote someone very dear "I don't do walking, and I DON'T do uphill". Must be getting old! Was always a member of the W.C. Fields' School of Exercise, he said "If you are fit you don't need it, if you are not fit you shouldn't take it". - I get all the execise I need jumping to conclusions.

Tim - we're looking forward to the late night sessions but we may have even more home brew for you to endure. I'm not sure what our buds are doing yet but it would be grand to add them to the Yellowbelly invasion again.

Just to add to the X56 bus discussion it's very handy for extending your range for coastal walks - I.e. you can walk twice as far as you might do otherwise up or down the coast and get the bus back.

Bus no 'X 56' from Middlesbrough - Whitby (X designating it as Express) every half hour through the day, not Sundays. The trip to Staithes takes a little over one hour.   Same service number back-over from Whitby. That trip takes a little less.   Either brings you to the top of Staithes Lane.   No service down into the village, nor yet as far as The Cook.   Getting to Whitby by rail is via Middlesbrough anyway but a very pretty run through the dales of the North Yorks National Park some people go just for the trip - some parts of the line interchange with the Grosmont to Pickering Steam trains for the anoraks !!!   And that's Heartbeat country !   The intrepid traveller could also do the railway to Saltburn and then hop local busses to Loftus and pick up the X 56 there, or a cab even - its only another 5 miles or so on to our ultimate destination.   

When I was a kid the railway ran down the coast and the station at Staithes was where the car park is now - The Cook was "The Station Hotel"    We'll take a look at the residual architecture when we are down there if you are interested - still remains of the old via-duct which carried the line from Boulby over the valley.   That little cafe which does such a superb breakfast, stands on the site of the signal box and / or porter's cottage. That Dr Beeching did untold damage to this nation.

If someone is using their bus pass (like me) then you could hop up the coast from your end, via Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough, Whitby to Staithes and do it for nowt - but not sure how long a trip like that would take!!!   May involve overnight stop somewhere along the line, due to connection times, but a very pretty trip. To those not familiar with our coast line - it is stunning - don't need to tell you.   That's why we put up with the shite weather the most of the year (shouldn't complain - we had our summer yesterday!!!)   That and the vibrant music scene and wonderful people - what more can I say ???

Wow, news sure does travel don't it?   Thanks to all who have asked, and special thanks to Cliff who offered the loan of a good guitar (that would be a first for me !)   It was just the machine head on the 3rd string. The string had been slipping for a day or two, I thought it was the winding, and needed new strings. When I tried to put them on, the machine finally gave up the ghost.   Luckily the ex-hubby lent me a mini-Grover to tide me over until the new set I ordered off t'internet arrives - don't you just love e-bay - and see, I do have a good word for him now and then!!!

If you haven't got the dates wrong and you can make it to Staithes, then there is a bus service from Scarborough to Whitby Number 93 or X93 and takes about 1 hour. You then have to change to Bus number 56 or X56 from Whitby to Staithes which takes about 30 minutes

The late sessions in the buildings on the camp site are as far as I know free to all as well.

I will be coming over early in the week (maybe Tuesday or Wednesday) for the Scarborough Seafest which starts on that Friday. I'll be performing with my friend Ken Schatz, I just spoke with Deb C yesterday & she's performing their too & like me I believe she'll be flying in early in the week. Is this something that's free only to those campering or staying at the Inn or are the singing venues open to anyone that happen's on by & I looked at a map, it seems close to Scarborough but I couldn't figure out the distances. Can someone tell me how far & if there public transportation to both places?

Weeel there is food at the pub,food at a diner just near the car park.
the site was an army type camp at some point.
there are showers and they work they are not modern.
I suppose it would be fair to say the facilities are just above basic.
+ if were in a tent on your ownsome I reckon you would find the other campers are freindly and some like us have a cooker you would be more than welcome to use or to share stuff.
It is a very freindly gathering.
Well apart from me I am a grouch but only while I am awake.

Why I fired my Secretary.

Last week was my birthday and I didn't feel very well waking up on that morning..

I went downstairs for breakfast
hoping my wife would be pleasant and say,
'Happy Birthday!',
and possibly have a small present for me.

As it turned out,
she barely said good morning,
let alone
' Happy Birthday.'

I thought...

Well, that's marriage for you,
but the kids...
They will remember.

My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast
and didn't say a word..
So when I left for the office,
I felt pretty low
and somewhat despondent.

As I walked into my office,
my secretary Jane said,
'Good Morning Boss,
and by the way
Happy Birthday ! '
It felt a little better
that at least someone had remembered.

I worked until one o'clock ,
when Jane knocked on my door
and said, 'You know,
It's such a beautiful day outside,
and it is your Birthday,
what do you say we go out to lunch,
just you and me.'
I said, 'Thanks, Jane,
that's the greatest thing
I've heard all day.
Let's go !'

We went to lunch.
But we didn't go
where we normally would go.
She chose instead at a quiet bistro
with a private table.
We had two martinis each
and I enjoyed the meal tremendously.

On the way back to the office,
Jane said, 'You know,
It's such a beautiful day...
We don't need to go straight back to the office,
Do We ?'

I responded,
'I guess not.
What do you have in mind ?'
She said,
'Let's drop by my apartment,
it's just around the corner.'

After arriving at her apartment,
Jane turned to me and said,



' Boss, if you don't mind,
I'm going to step into the bedroom
for just a moment.
I'll be right back.'
'Ok.' I nervously replied.

She went into the bedroom and,
after a couple of minutes,
she came out
carrying a huge birthday cake ...
Followed
by my wife,
my kids,
and dozens of my friends
and co-workers,
all singing 'Happy Birthday'.


And I just sat there....

On the couch...

Naked.
