Subject: International Tambourine Festival From: Jack Campin Date: 04 Apr 09 - 06:23 PM Thinking about places to go on holiday I had a look at the official website for tourism in Montenegro. Which tells me that Bijelo Polje in the north of Montenegro has an annual international festival of tambourine orchestras. The mind boggles. I thought it might have been a mistranslation of "tamburica"/"tamburitza" (the Balkan bouzouki-like thing) but the same expression recurs in several different websites. Is there such a thing as a tambourine orchestra? And do they all head off to the Balkans for weapons training once a year? On every website I've seen, the date is kept secret. |
