Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Andy Williams songs From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Apr 09 - 03:05 AM I should have noticed this before - Ella Fitzgerals recorded a song called "(If You Can't Sing It) You'll Have to Swing It (Mr. Paganini)," written by Sam Coslow. If you listen to both pieces, you'll see the Fitzgerald song is based on Rachmaninoff's Paganini (or maybe on the Paganini theme itself). -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Andy Williams songs From: Girl Friday Date: 09 Apr 09 - 10:18 AM Now that Joe has mad the Rachmaninoff Theme on paganini connection I do recognise the song... and, I do have it. I was lucky enough to see Andy Williams in concert over 30 years ago at Crystal Palace Bowl. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Andy Williams songs From: GUEST,DDPro Date: 09 Apr 09 - 08:04 AM Well, I have an cassette of old folk songs whick contains these two songs, although hey are not folk songs! It contains some other songs which are pop songs, such as "Say You Say Me" by Lionel Richie and "Self Control" by Laura Branigan. It also contains some songs which I think are country songs - some of the songs are by EmmyLou Harris. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Andy Williams songs From: GUEST,Joe Offer at the Women's Center Date: 08 Apr 09 - 08:02 PM Well, this page says that "Love Made Me a Fool" was based on Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Written by Tony Hiller / Nicky Graham, and recorded by Andy Williams. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Andy Williams songs From: Girl Friday Date: 08 Apr 09 - 06:22 PM I thought I had the whole Andy Williams catalogue, 50 plus albums. I don't recognise either of the above songs. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Andy Williams songs From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Apr 09 - 04:43 AM Well, they're very nice songs, but I'm not sure that Andy Williams would feel very comfortable here in a folk music forum. I combined the threads since the songs have Andy Williams in common. All the best to you. -Joe Offer, Forum Moderator- |
Subject: Lyr Add: She'll Never Know From: GUEST,DDPro Date: 08 Apr 09 - 04:17 AM She'll Never Know (Andy Williams) As the curtain rises there's a hush The lights go dim, the stage is bare And as the orchestra begins to play A light appears and she is there And as she dances like a dream A spell is cast a magic scene For her beauty captures every heart But I am lost forever more I can't share her with other hearts Love is what I feel Those hearts may come and go But I'll be there for every show But she'll never know I know it's impossible I cannot share my secret love All too soon she takes the final bow The curtain falls and she is gone And as I wander through the lonely night I see her dance the dying swan I will always love from afar But she'll never know |
Subject: Lyr Add: LOVE MADE ME A FOOL (Andy Williams) From: GUEST,DDPro Date: 08 Apr 09 - 04:15 AM LOVE MADE ME A FOOL (Andy Williams) Love made me a fool, now it's too late Now here I stand alone while you slip away I can't believe that you play a fool of me Everybody knew, everyone but me Why was I so blind? I couldn't even see Love made a fool of me Love made me a fool, it broke my heart How could it be so cruel? It tore me apart Was it just a game? Was I your toy? When you play at love you brought me joy Now you've had your share, you've gone and I can see Love made a fool of me I lie awake and feel the pain Nver again, never again Love made me a fool, it's over now Though I will be alone, I'll get along somehow At first I'll find it hard to live without you near And then I'll make a start, pretend that you weren't here And learn to love again, forget the misery Love made a fool of me Love made a fool of me |
