CHORUS Born at the back of a hawthorn hedge Where the black hole frost lay on the ground. No eastern kings came bearing gifts. Instead the order came to shift. Born here or a thousand miles away There‚s always men nearby who'll say CHORUS Six in the morning out in Inchicore The guards came through the wagon door. Subject: RE: Chord Req: Moving On (Go Move Shift) From: curmudgeon Date: 08 Apr 09 - 08:56 PM What's wrong with the original version by Ewan MacColl? The new verses add nothing to the thrust of the song, and perhaps even detract - Tom Hall |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Moving On (Go Move Shift) From: Bluegrassman Date: 09 Apr 09 - 07:52 PM There is nothing wrong with it, Michael asked for the Christy Moore version. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Moving On (Go Move Shift) From: Leadfingers Date: 09 Apr 09 - 07:58 PM The added last two verses just make sure its another Emglish Song that can be claimed as Irish . |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Moving On (Go Move Shift) From: Declan Date: 10 Apr 09 - 04:12 AM Christy recorded the original MacColl version of the song in the 70s. On one occasion (which happened to be on a live recording) he added some extra verses to make some local political points which are very much in keeping with the spirit of the original song. Christy has always acknowledged this as a MacColl song. I've never heard any other Irish person claim any different. What Michaelr said! |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Moving On (Go Move Shift) From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Oct 13 - 04:52 PM rutted by the trail of wheels Should be 'By The Trailer's Wheels' black hole frost lay on the ground should read 'Hoar Frost' And I am sure it wasnt a 'noble' tent in the original |
