Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bobby and His Sled From: GUEST Date: 30 Dec 11 - 01:00 PM Here is the song my grandma used to sing to me and my sister when we were kids: Bobby and his sled At evenings tide the little boy on Grandma's rocker climbs He'd beg for that old story He'd heard so many times He'd always long to hear it just before he went to bed the story that his grandma tells of Bobby and his sled Now Bobby was a little boy who lived long years ago he always road his sled to school whenever there was snow One day Bobby came to school an apple in his hand he told the girls to form a line for they were his command He threw the apple far away and turning round he said "Whoever brings the apple back shall always ride my sled" Helter skelter everywhere the girls ran pelmel for the prize when suddenly a little girl with cheeks of roses red demurely brought the apple back and blushing hung her head She rode that day on Bobby's sled and everyday of course twas hard to tell who liked it best the rider or the horse Your Grandpa there was Bobby Grandma said with a sigh Your Grandpa there was Bobby and the little girl was I Your Grandpa there was Bobby, the children laughed with glee Your Grandpa there was Bobby and the little girl was me Now off to dreamland go, each bright curly head to dream of little boys and girls like Bobby and his sled |

Subject: Lyr Req: 'Bobby and his sled' From: GUEST,snicklebugs5 Date: 09 Apr 09 - 09:08 AM I am trying to find the final lyrics for a song my Grandpa used to sing to his grandkids. It is called "Bobby and his sled". Here is what I remember: When Bobby was a little lad, I knew him years ago He used to take his sled to school whenever there was snow. He was a gallant little lad, he had a heart that was filled with pride. Every day he'd take the little girls for a ride. One day Bobby came to school with an apple in his hand. He told the girls to stand in line, obeyed was his command. Then he threw the apple far away and turning 'round he said: "The one who brings my apple back may always ride my sled." Well, a rush and scamper and all the girls ran quickly for the prize. And soon a pile of pinafores was all that met my eyes. Suddenly a little girl with cheeks like roses red Demurely brought the apple back and blushing hung her head. Well, she rode that day on Bobby's sled and every day of course. Its hard to tell who liked it best the rider or the horse. But certainly they kept it up all through the winter long. 'Til springtime smiled upon the earth and all the snow was gone. The years went by, the girl she grew in beauty and in grace And Bobby's 19th year had put a mustache on his face Discarded was the little sled for a team of grey's and sleigh Fulfilled the promise he had made to the little girl in play One day to the Parson's drove and there before them all She promised to love Bobby and his sled and all And now my story's ended," said Grandma with a sigh. The little boy was your grandpapa and the little girl was I (This is the part I don't remember too well) So they rode that day on Grandpa's sled and the children laughed with glee. Now rush and scamper off to bed as quickly as can be.....????? Thanks for any help! Mom of 5 snicklebugs |
