Redd was a regular guest at Hull but I can't find any references to Martin. I think I must have seen them both together elsewhere, down in London perhaps. Redd was booked with Martin Carthy and Steve Benbow in February 64 and then solo in January 66 and April 69. I have a vague memory of him coming with a gang of us from Hull to look at a half sunken wooden Humber keel in Goole docks. That would be early 70s.

he might be a great adition to the royal family, even if he is dead ,he was a lot more amusing and better company than any of the royal family, an excellent court jester

I think my first Whitby was 69. I wasn't at the first one, but every one since. (including last year).

In April 69 Redd was booked at the Bluebell in Hull and he stayed at our house. the following day we both went to Wilberforce House to look through their broadside collection. Ha, just found a reference to Martin Winsor booking at the Bluebell the same year, 29th June.

By, you've got a good memory, Dick, if you remember me from the early 70s at Whitby. The only reason I can bring this stuff up is I (sadly) have it all in notebooks and diaries. I can remember playing in the festival band to Graham's calling.
