Newfoundland's great Roy Payne can be found doing a new soldiers tribute song on YouTube. He has a great lady singer with him. It seems that they plan to do a tour of Newfoundland soon. I haven't heard of Roy for years but it's good to see him return to action!

Good to see Roy again, and to see that he has aged as well as I have. I was just playing THE TRAINS DON"T STOP AT KINGSTON PRISON last night at our weekly jam.

Does anyone know where I could get the lyrics for
The Trains Don't Stop At Kingston Prison by Roy Payne?

Thanks

I don't know the song and it doesn't appear in GEST Songs Of Newfoundland And Labrador. Perhaps PHJim will pick up this thread.

The Trains Never Stop At Kingston Prison - Roy Payne

Every night at midnight that old train passes by
On its way down Nova Scotia way
I bet it's filled with pretty girls with good times on their minds
I wish I was riding on that train.

But the trains never stop at Kingston Prison Mama
They just keep right on passing by
No the trains never stop at Kingston Prison Mama
Nothing stops in Kingston but time.

I can almost see that headlight shining through the trees
Turning night back into day again
Lord in this place the days and nights are all the same to me
I wish I was riding on that train.

But the trains...

I bet you'll find some guitar pickin' Newfies on that train
Gettin' drunk and singing all the way.
Tomorrow night they'll board that William Carson, almost home,
I wish I was riding on that train.

But the trains...

This is as close as I can remember and it's how I sing it. I hope it's accurate, but I haven't heard Roy sing it for 30 some odd years.

I bet you'll find some guitar pickin' soldier at the bar
Singing songs and drinking freedoms red wine
Tomorrow night he'll be with the woman that he loves
And I'll still be in Kingston doin time

But the trains....

That's the last verse

Roy did sing the "William Carson" verse for sure. I've never heard the soldier verse, but perhaps he had two versions.
