We'll be there on the Saturday with other Folkmobbers. Mick's looking forward to sampling and quaffing of the fine ales that he hasn't stopped talking about since last December so we'll be arriving by train. See you there.

When you leave the Good Intent on Monday(if they throw you out in time)
Great News Folks

The Folk Club has a brand new venue, and it's not too far away from the old one. Lovely Pete has arranged for us to go to his local, The Foresters in Wilmington. It's address is 235 Dartford High Street, but that's at the pretty end!

We start there on Monday 4th May. I know it's a Bank Holiday, but please make an effort to be there. We want to create a good impression. I have spoken to the landlady, Katy, she seems very nice and keen to have us there. We'll probably coming straight from Rochester Sweeps Festival.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hl=en&tab=wl

Thats the Google Map and directions from Eynsford

So,let's make a date for Mondays at 8.30 starting with a singaround .

there seem to be no trains running from broadstairs to rochester on the sweeps weekend - only service is via canterbury east with a walk to canterbury west....groan...

poor show for the festival and no wonder british seaside towns are struggling when there is a lack of public transport on a bank holiday weekend...bigger groan...

am considering putting on a small bus from the wrotham arms to the good intent for one of the days, so if anyone is interested please let me know

We are going to be travelling from and back to Faversham on the 2nd, didn't think that there might be a problem with trains but if they're running from Canterbury we should be OK.

Those who attended the Good Intent folk club, last night, would have witnessed Dal, the landlord, standing behind the bar, in a catatonic state and a silly grin on his face, saying ' I'll only serve you if you speak English', to everyone ordering a drink, untill Karen hit him.
Please don't mention this and embaress him at Sweeps

Ah, Richard, it looks like our morris paths will cross at the Two Brewers on Saturday morning.

Friday morning I shall be dancing in the May with Rattlejag Morris on Castle Hill, Laxton, Notts then travelling down to Rochester to dance with my local side - Exmoor Border, from North Devon.

Exmoor have never been to Rochester before, so Virgina Tam, make sure you spot us. (Blue and green tatters, black faces and very flowery hats.)

Hope to meet you all first in the GI on Friday night. Essex Girl tells me I should find a lot of familiar faces.

Sue

TheSilentOne has been practising the English Diggers Song

This one -

You noble Diggers all, stand up now, stand up now,
You noble Diggers all, stand up now,
The waste land to maintain, seeing Cavaliers by name
Your digging does maintain, and persons all defame
    Stand up now, Diggers all.

He will probably only do it last thing Saturday or first thing Sunday while crowds are thin. Please could people join in so he won't be so nervous.

It's a real shame that only booked performers and booked sides are allowed to camp. This year the levelled land alongside the new permissive path from the Rochester Bridge right the way along past ROchester Station is there, level, growing grass, and vacant. It's even got a tarmacked road for service vehicles, and three potential vehicular accesses (one would have needed a bit of levelling). All it would have needed was a few water standpipes and some grottibottis. And maybe some very hard security men to keep the local yoof at bay. It's right along the banks of the Medway. It would have been perfick, and I reckon it would have enabled hundreds and hundreds to stay and enjoy the whole of the festival. If they'd charged a modest £12 per head per night they could have made a fortune.

But oh no we can't be having that, even if it did used to be land open to all as being a tidal foreshore.

Totally agree RB. The land down near the river would make a great campsite. It would save that trudge back up the hill after a days merriment.

There is already a handrail to stop the public from getting into the Medway unless they actively so intend.

It would have been great to camp by the Medway but I fear Rochester Council, are like many councils tied up by Health and safety + They are to scared in the present economic climate to spend money to make money. looking forward it.

In my experience the streets and venues are so congested at peak times that one cannot move. Providing camping would inevitably encourage higher attendance. Maybe the council / police know the town cannot accommodate more people without approaching H&S issues.

Better change the subject back to musical or this thread will end up in BS for being too political.

Now learning Trouble In Mind on the mandolin! Makes a difference not having to be at work. I have energy and time to devote to learning and practice.

The best ways around are either to swing south to the Vines, or (usually better) north to Corporation Street. From Corporation Street you can pretty well re-appear anywhere you like in the High Street.

During the build up for the millennium I was involved in a group running a horse drawn bus from Greenwich and Blackheath stations to the Dome. We had the Greenwich council and the highways commission in a panic.....the outcome they could not stop us...Greenwich council even had to resurrect the old horse water troughs that were on the routes.
