I have recorded this French folk song in Prince Edward Island, Canada. I am told that it could have been translated from an English-language folksong. Would anyone recognize it? Here are the French words with a rough translation :

1) En dévirant le coin de la rue,
En dévirant le coin de la rue
J'ai aperçu une grosse auberge.
J'ai rentré prendre un p'tit coup.
Après un, j'en ai pris deux.
Je m'ai pas soûlé
Mais ç'a venu pas mal proche

Refrain

Et aussi proche, comme c'était proche,
Ça ne peut pas venir beaucoup plus proche.

Je marchais tout croche.

Translation :
