Hi all,

This tv show is airing on Oz tv this month. I have seen the first two episodes. The first episode showed a range of blues musicians. In the second episode it showed the links between the blues, and specifically Black American music and African influences on rock music generally, e.g. Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, etc. It is informative, and interesting, and makes the connections between the blues, and specifically Black American music and African influences on popular and rock music generally.

I look forward to each week's episode because I'm learning a lot.

I realise that most Mudcatters won't see it on Oz tv, but I am sure you can find it somehow - on the Internet, or as a DVD, etc. It's well worth watching, IMHO.

A Journey Through American Music - Travelling Blues
5:00pm Sunday, 19 Apr 2009

Morgan Freeman continues his showcase of the development of American blues music, taking up the story with the 1960s musicians from across the world who blended and melded it with thumping electric rock to produce new sounds.

The British blues boom saw white musicians like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton take up the blues baton to move it to a new level.

Where blues began as a soulful message of what was happening in a musician's life, as electric and then digitised music developed, it became entertainment. Blues and hip-hop married to produce the street sound for the new generation of black and whites in urban America.

This modern soundtrack in turn connects blacks back to their African heritage.
