We had a good time at the weekend - the first ashby folville folkthing.
It was small but great fun.
Organised by a Nottingham based Motorcycle club!!! all aged rockers now owning up to liking live music of 'other' types including folk.
Roll on next year!!

Great location, enthusiastic organisers, good local beer but they really need to sit down and decide what it is they are trying to create. It couldn't be described as a folk festival!

"Roll on next year!!"

Mmmmmm, but will there be a 'next year'? I fear the worst - empty concert venues, with the gathered multitude freeloading in the pub and its garden, doth not a financial success make.

It was a lovely little place, the organisers were very nice people, and it deserves to be a roaring success, (Good Lord, they even had a cricket match going on across the road - great relief for the folked-out) but I'd be amazed if they sold many tickets. and without ticket sales, you ain't got a 'next year', even if some (most?) of the artists play for nowt.

Fingers crossed for next year.

Ashby Folville Village in Leicestershire. They used the Pub (Carrington Arms) the village hall and a field.

I thought it was pretty successful, and rather liked the eclectic mix of music. Fringe always takes a couple of years to get off the ground at a new festival. The skittle alley had a really good crowd in on the Saturday night.

There was more fringe than festival!
