The grass is dead,
I wonder where dem birds is fled ...

The Spring has sprung,
The grass has riz,
I sometimes wonder,
What I iz.
I wish I was,
A little frog.
No taller than,
The grass.
I'd climb up all,
The big oak trees.
And slide down on
My.........
Hands....
and....
Knees.

Yes it does rhyme!!!!!

I grew up with:

Spring has sprung,
The grass is riz.
I wonder where
The flowers is?

From my Dad -- circa early 1950s.

It is not one of Piet Hein's Gruks (Grooks).
But I would like to see a translation into Danish.

No, it's a good deal older than Piet Hein. I suspect it's anon.

Spring is coming.
He is?
Not "He is", "It is".
It is what?
It is coming.
What is coming?
Spring is coming.
He is?

And bloody well about time, if you ask me.

Spring has sprung,
Fall has fell.
This summer
Will be hotter
Than last summer.

The lovely lass
Strolled through the Grass
That came up to her knees.
When the Grass grows higher,
This poem will rhyme.

Thank you, thank you very much.

I can't remember the rest but it's said to be by Piet Hein (not sure of the spelling). The old memory is not what it was, but I think it was published in 'Motes & Beams' which I have been told is long out of print.

He also wrote:-

If, of thy worldly goods thou art bereft
and of thy slender store, two loaves alone to thee are left
sell one
and with the dole
buy hyacinths to feed thy soul
