I've been trawling the net for any info on Eilidh Moore, sister of Christy. No reference anywhere, not even under "Family" on Christy's Wiki page. Eilidh was doing folk clubs and festivals in the UK in the 60s/70s. A great singer!

In the sixties My dad had an album from an Irish Female singer, but I cant remember the title or her name. Songs on the album included: foggy dew, off to dublin in the green, old rustic bridge, bonnie boy is young but is growing, Nell Flaherty's drake,and others. I am in Australia. My favourite Irish female singer from the 1960's is Anne Byrne. I live in California and actually found one used LP by Anne Byrne in a record shop here many years ago but was lucky to find more when I visited London in the 1980's. There were some great record shops in London and I found more Anne Byrne albums then. Also another Irish singer I liked was Jane Cassidy and bought two of her Lps when I visited Dublin, Ireland in 1983.
I have listened to other Irish singers from the 1960's but Anne Byrne by far is my favourite.

Having lived in Bundoran in the mid fifties I knew Teresa's parents and
her brother Pat and recall how well Teresa could sing before she became
well known.She came to visit with my brother Brendan in the late sixties
or early seventies and she looked ever so good;that was when we lived in Yarton Oxon.I am happy to know that she is well and should love to get in touch.I came across a nice photo of her which is now on my f/b.

Teresa Duffy was a cousin of my late father, William Duffy. I have fond memories of Teresa staying with us when she was performing in Glasgow, probably the early 1960's. I always thought she was so glamorous & used to watch in wonder as a 5 or 6 year old at her applying her make up for a concert. We still listen to her music now. Please give her our love.

It's nice to know that Teresa Duffy is still around. I have 3 of her LPs and I think she has a fantastic voice. I guess she will be about the same age as me. I bought her 'Songs of Freedom' when it first came out. Best wishes to her.

I remember many of those from growing up in Ireland and saw a few live. Other names worth mentioning, Daniel O'Donnells sister Margaret or was it Margo? Ann Breen takes some beating too, and Mary Duff has a fine Voice. My personal favourite is Mary Black

The singing styles and instrumentation can be hard to take for those acquainted with "modern" "folk" music. It's kind of morphed into that strange beast called "country 'n' irish". Margaret Barry was out on her own though...

Nobody got a good word to say about Jane Cassidy? Don't know if she ever recorded, but she had a,sadly unsuccessful, appearance on a National TV talent show a few years ago. VERY fine singer, but wasn't presented to her best advantage. Played in sessions with her hubby Maurice years ago.

Ottilie Patterson fits the bill very nicely. Born in Comber, Co. Down in 1932, she was knocking them dead as the singer with the Chris Barber Band for a large part of the 50s and 60s.

In answer to Martin's last query the answer on Sheelagh Warde is very easy for me. Yes I remember her well and still am privileged to know her to this day. Sheelagh is my mum!

I first saw her on tv as a very small child when I was lifted out of bed to watch mummy sing in The Melody Lingers On series when she sang "Oh play to me gypsy"
I couldn't understand as I got older how I knew that the dress my mum wore on the tv was green since it was only black and white in those days.
I later figured it out. I knew the emerald dress from seeing it hanging with Mum's props on the wardrobe in her bedroom.
Mum sang all over Ireland and I believe in England too. She was pregnant with me when she went to North America to sing there.

Hope this adds to the stories!

ard mhacha yes you are right about Delia Murphy. She started her recording career in 1939 I think. One of my favourite tracks of hers is "The Bantry girls lament" but she had many great songs. The problem with Bridie is that she was discovered quite late on. I think she was about 35 at the time and was singing in a concert in Derry which resulted in her recording contract and big hit. But what must her voice have sounded like when she was 25?

Was it in the Ulster Hall you first saw Ruby in the late forties?

A lot of those singers were singing long before Bridie Gallagher, notably Delia Murphy who was singing long before some of those singers were born, also Ruby Murray whom I seen singing in the late 1940s at a concert,Teresa Duffy and of course Margaret Barry were on the scene before Bridie.

I saw Ruby Murray at the Theatre Royal in Brighton in a "Variety" show around 1981 or so - she was on the bill with old music hall stars like Lesley Sarony of "Pete The Piddling Pup" fame. Her big hit was "Softly, Softly".
