I've recently bought a Pro Tools M Box 2 and found that it was too clever for my current hardware. Therefore I want to but a laptop just for recording with the M box 2 and LE software. I've looked on the Pro Tools website at the compatability stuff and it's left me more confused than when I started. Can anyone help with advice on what to buy so I can just load up my software and get going. It may be wise to say I'm UK based.

From what I've heard, get one with XP rather than Vista as the latter has a lot of problems with audio.

Confused - I run an old Mbox with Pro Tools 7 under XP/Pro. The only thing that caused me problems originally was low memory causing frequent "interrupts held off" messages. That was when I had only 512Mb. Once I moved up to 1Gb it was fine (If you have a new laptop, then I imagine you have no problems with memory). The only other thing I remember from the compatibility was that it required a 7200rpm disc drive and specified Firewire rather than USB if you're using an external drive. I can't comment on this latter; I run from internal discs on a desktop machine.

If you can specify more exactly what your problems are I'll try and help. (If you become a member - there are no string/dangers to this - you can send me a personal message (PM) (see drop down Quick Links). Pro Tools is a great piece of software - it's worth making the effort to get it going!

Mick
