Subject: Loanhead Festival - June, info Request From: GUEST,cujimmy Date: 03 May 09 - 02:44 PM Can anyone inform me about the Festival at Loanhead near Edinburgh in June, is it a folk festival or a mixture of different kinds of music, are there singarounds / sessions etc, I have looked through the website but there is no contact details. I have got that weekend off so I,m thinking of giving Loanhead Festival a try. |
Subject: RE: Loanhead Festival - June, info Request From: Jack Campin Date: 03 May 09 - 05:03 PM No featured acts - sessions, singarounds, workshops, a Recycled Instrument Competition, a ceilidh or two. Tends be mainly Americana. If you're interested in slide guitar, Bruce Hogg (the main organizer) runs a workshop on it every year and he's extremely knowledgeable about it. It's an unpretentious low-key affair, not many people from outside Midlothian go to it. Most of the events are on the Saturday, and since I work then I've only been the once. |

Subject: RE: Loanhead Festival - June, info Request From: GUEST,Ian Date: 12 Jun 09 - 01:59 PM I'm probably too late with this, but I phoned one of the main venues and was told that children are only allowed into pubs that do meals, and then only until 7pm. What is wrong with this country, don't we trust ourselves to be near kids when we're drinking, I always regarded this kind of event as family-orientated and other festivals seem to get round this "law". |
Subject: RE: Loanhead Festival - June, info Request From: Jack Campin Date: 12 Jun 09 - 02:37 PM This is up to the local licencing authority. The only pub that would be really suitable for kids is the one with the garden out the back, and I haven't been in it late on a festival weekend so I wouldn't know what that gets like. The rest of them are hooching, small kids would get trampled underfoot. So I can see why no later children's licence might have been granted. As with most festivals there's usually a dead spot around 7-8 when nothing much is happening, so that would give you the chance to get the kids home. |
Subject: RE: Loanhead Festival - June, info Request From: GUEST,Guest. Dick Date: 01 Apr 14 - 08:17 AM Children can get very excited and tend to want to beat out a rhythm on anything to hand. A real down if you are trying to be heard. Kids are lovely, but evening in a bar is not so great for them. |
