That's funny...I'm surprised that they allowed any real drinking! I do note that it does seem like the same group of dancers in all of the episodes...astro

Damien appeared as a drinker in the pub. He told me that he apparantly got into trouble for drinking too much of his beer as it ruined the continuity of shots !!

One of those dancers was Damien Barber. I'm not sure if he was an actual team member or an extra as he also appeared away from the dancers.

It's always been a mystery and an enigma to me how production crews get hold of 'extras' for flming. The recognised route now seems to be if an organisation is signed on with a bookings agency or is included in a collective Google search site. In my last TV appearance (an advert for Aldi supermarkets), the paid 'talent' extras seemed to have less air time than the assorted choir members brought in for the evening (insofar as you can have more air time in a 30 second advert), so it isn't always about job descriptions!

It's curious about the connection to the production of this show and the Morris dancers...I wonder if there were Morris dancers in the cast or crew?

Some of it was filmed in the Saffron Walden area - if I remember rightly, which is probably not... but I have it in my head that it was; which would make Thaxted a suitable contender, it being not a million miles up the road.

I am far from an expert on these things, though RTim it was outside of pubs usually(!) and they were (older, kind of like me) men... and in the regalia seen with Morris dancing. Again, this was in the early 1990's era...I will google Thaxted Morris...


Desert Dancer and I will be at NW folklife in Seattle where apparently there will be a large Morris dance event happening. She has Morris danced before and I have not...

Astro - Lovejoy was set in Suffolk, which I think is more celebrated for stepdancers than morris,

If I remember correctly and if it outside of a pub, and the men were "older" than most - it was Thaxted Morris.

It hasn't shown here for many years, but I remember one episode in which Damien Barber briefly appeared as an extra....

I have been watching the series Lovejoy starring Ian McShane and there are many scenes where they are walking by or through Morris dancers. I was wondering if any mudcatter would have any knowledge of this and who the dancers were. Also, Lovejoy used Morris dancers multiple times in multiple shows. Is there any reason why they featured dancers so often?

Astro in Los Angeles wasting time enjoyingly....

(BTW, Lovejoy was a show set in England of a rascal Lovejoy, an antiques dealer with sidekicks Tinker and Eric)
