On an other thread someone posted the lyrics from "The road to Malinmore" transcribed from the Bridie Gallagher album "Greatest Hits Vol One". Can someone have the words from Dermot O'Brien?
Thanks

Hi there,

Lyrics as follows by Dermot O'Brien:-

On the road to Malinmore you can hear the ocean roar,
I heard the blackbird sing its happy song.
It was in the month of June and the heather was in bloom
When I spied a damsel as she tripped along.
Her face was fair and handsome and her hair was neatly tied
By the gaily coloured ribbons that she wore.
And she stole my heart away on that far off summer's day
When I met her on the road to Malinmore.

On the road to Malinmore where the ocean meets the shore.
I met her on the road to Malinmore.

Well I've travelled Donegal, through the glens and mountains tall
And many were the pretty girls I've seen.
But there's none that can compare to the colleen I met there ,
And I knew that of them all she was the queen.
Well I went to see here father for to ask him for her hand
And if I could make her mine for ever more.
So if you're in Donegal you'll be welcome if you call
To our cottage on the road to Malinmore.

On the road to Malinmore where the ocean meets the shore ,
I met her on the road to Malinmore.

Hope this is correct. I am doing this from memory so please forgive any errors. I am a big Bridie Gallagher fan and although I like Bridie's version I prefer Dermot's for the string accompaniment. I also believe he wrote the song.
Best wishes.
Martin

Thanks very much Martin
It's just because I need to compare it to another vesrion I heard. so, thanks.
It's effectivly O'Brien who wrote it when he was in Glencolmcille.

Cheers,
