It is a good song - but not Cornish. It's been a regular in male voice choir repertoire for many years, and originated as an African-American spiritual.

I used to have a copy of the music, but it seems to have walked. I'll try and dig one up from my contacts.

Phil

Thanks. Here are some words I made out

It's the lily of the valley, oh my Lord??? repeat

...chariot...
Witrh 4 white horses side by side

What kind of shoes are those you wear
That you can ride upon the air

These shoes I wear are not my own??
And you can wear them if you are chosen??

Oh my ???

This is an old American "Negro" spiritual. How it came to be associated with the Helston Flora Day would be an interesting story.

From The Jubilee Singers, and Their Campaign for Twenty Thousand Dollars by Gustavus D. Pike (Boston: Lee and Shepard, 1873):

HE'S THE LILY OF THE VALLEY

CHORUS: He's the lily of the valley,
Oh! my Lord;
He's the lily of the valley,
Oh! my Lord.

1. King Jesus in the chariot rides,
Oh! my Lord;
With four white horses side by side,
Oh! my Lord.

2. What kind of shoes are those you wear,
Oh! my Lord;
That you can ride upon the air,
Oh! my Lord?

3. These shoes I wear are gospel shoes,
Oh! my Lord;
And you can wear them if you choose,
Oh! my Lord.

We used to sing that at teacher's training college back in 1963/64 - en mass, in harmony, in assembly. That's out here in Wellington, New Zealand.
We only sang the chorus and first verse. But we sang other spirituals as well.
