Perhaps you can go someplace like a library or workplace with a faster connection and download this driver there?

From your previous posts it appears likely that you're in the UK?

Do enough friends who might have the disc know where you live? Some who might be willing to walk down the street might be less willing to have their disc at the other end of the isle.

HP lists 4 or 5 separate sub-versions of the 3210, with separate support pages for each. There are separate driver downloads for each of about five different Operating Systems for each of the 3210 versions. The downloads may or may not be different for the sub-models, but a specific model number is needed to get into the "HP Customer Care" site at the right place to get what you want. Obviously the OS has to be known.

If you can provide more specific information, someone might be able to download the drivers you need, (and with HP there may also be "management" programs) and email them to you(?).

Downloads from HP are usually pretty painless with a high-speed connection, but you may be getting failures from AV or other "stuff" on your computer. Do you have any "features" that might explain your inability to download? Are you trying to "run" the download or saving to disc to run after download?

There are separate TWAIN drivers for many HP scanners. Do you need/want TWAIN for your setup?

John

I had this prob with the C5280 printer download.

I found (at the 4th attempt) that, instead of installing the driver save it to your desktop and run it once downloaded.

This worked fine until a paper-jam occured on my printer and, in freeing it, I snapped the 'paper-feed' roller off and now I can't print on paper - Only on CD's

Hi yes I'm in the UK.

My OS is XP I have downloaded to desktop and have tried from there but this took ages and again stalled at 94% of the download.

Thanks for the suggestions

In the US or Canada HP offers the CD. I didn't go all the way to completion of an order, so I didn't get a firm price, but I would expect it to be nominal - possibly just the shipping charge.

(I don't see a quick way to get to a UK HP site via the links I usually use, since it seems to automatically default me to the North American support site.)

The basic driver package looks like about 31 MB, which could be a problem with a slow (dial-up?) connection. There is a "full package" that's around 290 MB that quite probably would hit a server timeout on many US dial-up connections. (Some dial-up services here drop the connection after a period of "inactivity" but appear to consider only key-strokes on your machine as "activity," so a long download looks like you're not doing anything.)

Since the drivers may be "regionalized" - slightly different for different parts of the world - it probably would be safest to find someone in your own area if you have to "borrow" what you need.

Thanks JIK

I have spoken to HP in the UK they were my first point of call. They have told me they dont do CD's for my model anymore because they have the down loads from there site. I'm still trying though via that route!!

Cheers

My link to HP Customer Care shows a CD available. I clicked in far enough to be asked whether I was in the US or Canada, "to calculate the shipping charge," but didn't continue. It might say "not available" by the time you got to where the order was actually placed(?). (There is a box at the top right on the page to select other "regions," but I'm defaulted to US/Canadian.)

You should be able to save the download anywhere on your computer. I have a separate folder (C:\buncha\stuff\Downloads\HP where I save all the HP ones, each in separate subfolders. If you can get to a faster connection, on a machine that allows it, I'd recommend a "thumb drive" to save it and carry it home. Recent US prices are at about $10 (US) for a 2GB.

If you're having a problem saving to your own computer, I would assume that you've already done a "Disk Cleanup" to make sure that the temp space needed to process the download isn't cluttered up. The download will go to Temp until completed, and only "writes" to a peramanent place after the whole thing is there. WinXP defaults to use a maximum of 10% of the free space on the drive for Temp storage, so if you have a small drive, or lots of junk on it, it's possible that you're running out of temp space. A "hang" at the end of a download often happens when the computer is trying to do the transfer from temp to end file location.

My concern with using a US or Canadian version is because not too long ago HP was one of a few printer makers who attempted to "localize" their printers so that you had to buy ink cartridges "in your own region." (To stamp out web orders from discounter?) Comment on the "feature" sort of faded, and I believe they decided it wasn't a good idea; but if your printer was current during that time a driver distributed in the US or Canada might prevent you from using ink purchased in the UK.(?). They sort of got "caught" and were properly cursed over the ink, but they may have incorporated other "regional preferences.

The NoAm site shows four versions for the basic printer:

Printers and Multifunction (4)
» HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One Printer
» HP Photosmart 3210a All-in-One Printer
» HP Photosmart 3210v All-in-One Printer
» HP Photosmart 3210xi All-in-One Printer

Differences, for HP, usually are due to the devices being for Serial/Parallel, USB, or Ethernet etc. connection; but I don't know of a "convention" for guessing which is which. Our USB HP multi is a 1315xi, but I don't know if they're consistent.

The 3210 "bare" download offers:

The following software and drivers are compatible with your product and the operating system Microsoft Windows XP
Driver Date Version Previous Size
» HP Multi-Function Products Driver Bundle - Corporate Only
09-2006 7.0.1 - 31.54M
» HP Photosmart Basic Print and Scan Driver
08-2006 7.0.1 - 45.27M
» HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers
08-2006 7.0.1 - 298.43M

The download of the "Basic" driver took 2 minutes 16 seconds on my DSL connection, which isn't incredibly fast; but you'd likely take at least 10 times that with dial-up. there was a brief "hang" after the download completed before the ftp connection "signed off" but it wasn't more than 5 or 6 seconds.

There is a warning at the Basic drivers download that you "really need the "Full Features Software and Drivers" (the 298.43MB one)" but my impression of hp "full features" is that they're mostly "fully annoying," although they might be of use if you don't have other decent graphics handling programs. The "warning" does say that the Basic download includes USB support.

The only thing I can think of that you might miss from the full package could be the "manager" that tells you how much ink is left and runs cleaning and maintenance utilities from the computer. Usually, everything essential can be done using the buttons on the multi, but especially if the Manager is missing from the basic drivers package, you might want to see if you can download a user manual, if your original is with your missing disc, since the labels on most HP devices are "less than fully informative" and it helps to have instructions handy to do things with the buttons.

John Many thanks once again

Ive tried installing both the Multi-Function Products Driver Bundle and Basic Print and Scan Driver but both failed at about 94% for some reason. I saved to desktop and ran both from there. Ive also tried saving to disc but this did noy work either.

Ive been onto HP again to see if I can get a new installation disc but same story again because they have them as downloads they dont keep them.

I think its time for Mr Computer Engineer!!!

Thanks
