Subject: Animal Crackers From: KU Date: 07 Jul 99 - 03:13 PM I'm looking for the lyrics to a song which may be from a Marx Brothers movie. I believe the first two lines of the song are: "Animal crackers in my soup Monkeys and tigers loop-the-loop...." I do not want this song for commercial use - just to sing to my kids. Thanks! |

Animal crackers in my soup,
In every bowl of soup I see
When I get hold of the big bad wolf
When they're inside me where it's dark,

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Animal Crackers in my soup From: Alice Date: 27 Oct 99 - 10:15 PM Of course it is Shirley Temple. How could you doubt your wife? The movie was called "Curly Top", done in 1935, copyright 20th Century Fox (renewed 1963). Unforgettable classic with Arthur Treacher. Maybe you can find it by searching www.dogpile.com |

Subject: Lyr Add: ANIMAL CRACKERS IN MY SOUP (Part B) From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Oct 16 - 05:21 PM I just listened to Shirley Temple singing ANIMAL CRACKERS IN MY SOUP at YouTube. The video seems to be an excerpt from her movie "Curly Top" (1935). Following the verses posted by Gargoyle above, there are these additional verses, following which she reprises the first part: Animal crackers in my soup do funny things to me. They make me think my neighborhood is a big menagerie. For instance, there's a janitor; his name is Mister Klein, And when he hollers at us kids, he reminds me of a lion. The grocer is so big and fat; he has a big mustache. He looks just like a walrus just before he makes a splash. |
Subject: Lyr Add: I'M JUST WILD ABOUT ANIMAL CRACKERS From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Oct 16 - 07:34 PM Another song about animal crackers: The sheet music cover only can be seen at Mississippi State University. I'M JUST WILD ABOUT ANIMAL CRACKERS Words & music by Fred Rich, Sam Coslow & Harry Link, ©1926. As recorded by Irving Aaronson and his Commanders, 1926. VERSE: Ev'rybody has some weakness, and so have I— Something I long for, I'm mighty strong for. It's my only dissipation, I won't deny. You would never guess What brings me happiness. CHORUS: Oh, I'm just wild about Animal crackers, animal crackers! I can't live without Animal crackers, animal crackers! Bears and tigers haunt me all day, And whenever I am at a swell cafe, Say, all I order is Animal crackers, animal crackers! Firecrackers won't do. Goodness gracious! I'm no chump. I just bit off a camel's hump. Animal crackers, I love you. |
Subject: Lyr Add: ANIMAL CRACKERS (Morley/Hageman) From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Oct 16 - 07:46 PM From the sheet music at Indiana University: ANIMAL CRACKERS Words by Christopher Morley, music by Richard Hageman, ©1917. Animal crackers and cocoa to drink, That is the finest of suppers, I think. When I'm grown up and can have what I please, I think I shall always insist upon these. What do you choose when you're offered a treat? When Mother says, "What would you like best to eat?" Is it waffles and syrup, or cinnamon toast? It's cocoa and animals that I love most! The kitchen's the cosiest place that I know. The kettle is singing; the stove is aglow, And there in the twilight, how jolly to see The cocoa and animals waiting for me. Daddy and Mother dine later in state, With Mary to cook for them, Susan to wait; But they don't have nearly as much fun as I, Who eat in the kitchen with Nurse standing by; And Daddy once said, he would like to be me, Having cocoa and animals once more for tea. |
