Subject: Sheffield Folk Chorale in Selby (UK) on Sat 16 May From: YorkshireYankee Date: 15 May 09 - 10:39 AM For those who live in/near Selby: Sheffield Folk Chorale -- directed by Graham Pratt (formerly of Regal Slip... any fans out there?) -- will be performing at Selby Abbey this Saturday, 16th May, at 7.30 pm. Tickets (£6.00) available from the Abbey Gift Shop (or call Jennifer at 01757 703123). As a member of said choir, I confess to having a biased opinion, but I highly recommend coming to hear us -- not necessarily because of our wonderful voices, but because the arrangements which Graham creates are a joy to hear -- absolutely brilliant stuff! He has a distinctive and wonderful approach to harmonies that is a real treat for the ears. Hope to see you there! From the website: Since the choir started in 2001 it's gone from strength to strength. At the start the aim was simply to get together a choir to put on a Christmas carol concert featuring some less well known carols and songs. The SpiteWinter concert of 2001 was so successful and enjoyable, it was decided to sing on! The Sheffield Folk Chorale has these aims: * to introduce traditional folk music to new audiences * to feature newly written songs and carols (strongly influenced by folk music) and include songs from other countries, times and cultures. * to concentrate on strong melodies with Graham's new arrangements in three or four part harmony. * to encourage natural singing and include in the choir those who don't sight-read as well as those who do. |
