Where in Suffolk?

Apologies for a rather self-centered thread.

I'm considering a possible future move to Suffolk.
I know bits of it, but not all.

Ideally I'd like to move to a medium sized historic town with relaxed social scene and some arts/culture, including of course an err, VIBRANT FOLK SCENE...

Oh yes...
Roses round the door and faeries in the garden optional, but preferred.

Bury st Edmunds,Best town in Suffolk,and easy to get to anywhere apart from Lwestoft,and thats difficult for every body.

I'd also recommend Bury St. Edmunds - a lovely town with good access for lots of Suffolk - and lots of folk.

Yes.....Bury St. Edmunds. Although you can find much folkiness in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex as well as Suffolk. Bury has the advantage of being central and having good links to the rest of the country.

There's also the home of the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust - Stowmarket. Good rail links, yearly folk festival with travellers and step dancing, etc. Lots going on.

john,I have lived in both Bury st edmunds and Stowmarket.
I can uneqivocably say Bury St Edmunds,
Stowmarket is ok but if I had a choice,definitely Bury St Edmunds.
you have to have lived there to know the difference.

Thanks for feedback so far Catters, I've only been to Bury and Stowmarket once each, and many years ago when a kiddie - so both are on a day/weekend visit list for this Summer. I'll look out for music events to check.

Try Bungay ('Bun-gee') or Beccles. don't know what the weekly scene is like, but I think they get some good concerts occasionally.
