Found this from another site. Its John Lennon's "Imagine", played on the bells at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp-ZGDDrn68

Lennon himself learnt to ring church bells, at St Peter's chuch at Woolton (where Eleanor Rigby's grave is), so the performance seems somehow appropriate.

Gosh.

I'm having trouble hearing the tune though. It doesn't sound like anything to me. Pretty bells, but that's all. Can you hear 'Imagine' in that, Peter?

Must be my ears..

Does anyone else find playing this song, containing the line 'imagine no religion', on church bells somewhat ironic?

I bet it's nowhere near as good as Bill Bailey and percussionists from a famous orchestra performing a Saint-Saens piece on Swiss cow-bells on TV recently !!It was mind-boggling !

Only as ironic as the line "Imagine no possessions" written by the millionaire John Lennon.

Only as ironic as the line "Imagine no possessions" written by the millionaire John Lennon.

------------------------------------

It was also sung by Errol Brown at a Conservative Party rally in the 1980s. Which is kind of *beyond* irony......

As a bell ringer I thought it was wonderful, well done everyone involved. As far as the choice of song, the last line being "and the world could live as one" says it all.

It's 'officially' a folk song, 'cos the Spinners recorded it!

I'm having trouble hearing the tune though. It doesn't sound like anything to me.

As the Anglican cathedral bells are hung for change ringing I wouldn't expect a tune to be recognisable.
