I just heard from a reliable source, who got it from Jackie herself that this

Thursday, May 21, on Dave Letterman,
Jacqueline Schwab will be playing piano backup for Jean Redpath!

How cool is that? One song only - don't blink was part of the message, but this combination is worth wading through a show I haven't watched for decades, to see superb performers I haven't seen live for years. Perhaps some briliant soul will YouTube it for those who didn't find out in time!

Jackie Schwab has the finest touch on piano of almost anyone I have ever heard. Many fine pianists lack that one small part of technique which separates the greats from the "damn goods."

AC....Yes, the same. Jay and Molly used to perform here at a "Spoleto-like" festival every summer and I had the privilege of listening to them in an old and restored country church. A beautiful grand had been brought in and in that small venue Jacqueline Scwab's ability and her wondrous touch was even more accentuated and beautiful than on any recording or Burns special.

I loved all those and I love Ungar and Mason but listenning to Jackie Scwab was far and away the highlight. There are times when her touch is so light that you aren't sure whether you heard the notes from the piano or that she magically wished them into the air.

Yes people.....SHE IS THAT GOOD!

If you have never heard this woman play, be sure you catch the show...hell, tape it or whatever.....Don't miss it.

Are you sure it's the Tonight Show? The same message from Jackie was posted on another list, but that one said it was the Late Show With David Letterman, which is a different program and on a different network than the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Can someone confirm which?

For those of you unfamiliar with the format of The Late Show with Dave Letterman, the "musical guest" invariably appears LAST, for the final 4 minutes or so of the program ~ and preceded by an extra-long commercial break.

I'm sure some of you anxious to see/hear this performance are unaccustomed to such late hours; take an afternoon nap or drink some coffee or something...

I love it when reality triumphs. I had been picturing Leno channeling his Scottish grannie and trying to do that accent back at Jean Redpath, though. Darn, that would have been funny. David Letterman is a bit snide for my taste. (but of course I'm going to watch it!)

I've had the pleasure of the company and music of both these ladies. I can't say enough what a fantastic musician and dancer Jacqueline is, while being one of the all time wonderful people in the universe. A Bare Necessities English Country Dance is a transcendental experience - the music carries you to just where you need to be in the dance, driven by Jacqueline's piano.

I had the pleasure of presenting Jean Redpath in her only Cleveland appearance, 14 years ago - I know well the time because I've a vivid picture of her dandling my then un-named very wee sheltie puppy on her lap while I was taking name suggestions. (He was Runyard Barking Kipling, the world's smallest good looking sheltie, until his demise last month) I saved her suggestion for if I ever get another girl dog it would suit. Her knowledge and sly sense of humor on top of such a grand voice make for an amazing concert experience. It's frustrating to know that there won't be more than one song from this duo tomorrow. What a WONDERFUL tour that would be though...

I'll also be awaiting a YouTube clip. The Letterman show used to be relayed here in the UK. At the moment, only John Stewart and Jay Leno have Freeview presence - don't know about Sky coverage.

First saw Jean Redpath around 1969. The Humblebums (then just Billy Connolly and Tam Harvey)who had been making a name for themselves in pubs and clubs around Glasgow, had their first major concert in the City Hall, Candleriggs. Billed as "The Humblebums and Friends", the "Friends" turned out to be a gallery of the best of the Scottish folk scene of the time. Singing solo and unaccompanied, Jean Redpath's clear, almost operatic voice immediately silenced and then thrilled the audience, who were there to hear something very different. The only other time I saw her was at Blackpool Folk Club at the Raikes Hotel, maybe ten years later. Since then I've had to rely on the occasional accidental record find (mostly American issues, so not exactly thick on the ground over here).

She says, in part: Some exciting news—this Thursday, May 21, I'm scheduled to accompany renowned and stirring Scottish singer Jean Redpath on CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman!" Jean will perform one song only (so don't blink), and I don't know if I'll be on-camera or even mentioned by name, but I'll be there accompanying her on piano. I'd love for any of you night owls to tune in! Jean's CBS offer came about after she recently sang a poignant John Stewart song about love, on "A Prairie Home Companion."

Yes...Jean Redpath is great....beautiful job, etc.

But Jackie Schwab is friggin' spectacular! She could make Yoko Ono sound good.....well maybe at least sorta' half-assed awful which is way up from where she really is.

I swear to whatever god you wish that there are notes that just seem to be thoughts rather than sounds. It is truly as fine a touch on a piano as I have ever heard or ever expect to hear.

Humph...I guess I am spoiled...I am sure she is all those things ya'll say, but I wasn't that impressed with her piano playing last night. It may just be a personal thing as I don't like that kind of dramatic lifting up of the hands etc. when one plays the piano, but it was also the sound. BECAUSE I respect you all, though, I am going to go see if I can find more of her on youtube and give her another listen.:-) No offence!

Darlin' Kat, (and anyone else who is interested), take your eyes off her hands, go to itunes or your mp3 source of choice, and search for the English Country Dance group, Bare Necessities . Listen to how the piano interacts with the other instruments, sometimes in the foreground, sometimes giving subtle support, but always lovely, unique, skilled, and wonderful. It helps that Jackie's personality fits those adjectives, too!
