Subject: '71 PBS Video Philly Folk From: Mark Ross Date: 20 May 09 - 10:28 AM In 1971 I was living in Berserkeley and I remember seeing a PBS broadcast of the Philadelphia Folk Festival with Utah Phillips, John Denver, Steve Goodman, John Prine & others. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this. Do any still exist? Does anyone else remember this? Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: '71 PBS Video Philly Folk From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 20 May 09 - 10:30 AM I'm sure the Philly Folk Song society or Gene Shay has a copy, but I do not think it is commercially available. |
Subject: RE: '71 PBS Video Philly Folk From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 20 May 09 - 10:32 AM Gene used some clips from the PBS documentary in the 40th anniversary boxed set that came out. I also have a promo copy of an LP that PBS sent out to radio stations to help promote the series back when it first aired. |

Subject: RE: '71 PBS Video Philly Folk From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 20 May 09 - 12:18 PM Perhaps I'm wrong, but I swear that I recall Gene saying they used footage from that documentary in the boxed set. I am also thinking that they have shown footage from it on the large screens at the festival in recent years, but there is a good chance that they used other footage. Gene would know, and his memory is a lot better than mine!! |
Subject: RE: '71 PBS Video Philly Folk From: GUEST,Alison Date: 26 Jul 12 - 10:35 PM I wish I could find bits of this somewhere - anywhere! I used to run home from things to watch it. I think there were 13 shows in the series. I remember especially Martin Carthy doing Prince Heathen. I was never the same ... |
