:~) A frequently-asked question. It's always either an alpenhorn or a nyckelharpa.

That's my story an' I'm a-stickin' to 'er.

Stick the alpenhorn up your kazoo, spread your arms, and fart. It flies by itself!

oh, disappointment, i had hoped it was my beloved Nyckelharpa

guess it is called alphorn in Eliana's native tongue....
and it must take quite a tongue and lungs, too. (German?)

usually accompanied by Lederhosen

A lot of alphorns are telescopic. I've seen buskers travelling round Europe with them: folded in their case, they have about the same weight and volume as a guitar.

I've seen a guy busking with one in the centre of Edinburgh during the Festival, and more surreally, two guys playing a duet on the shore of the Adriatic, miles from anywhere in Croatia, somewhere near Zadar. It was bitterly cold and snowing a bit, so they'd have been right at home. The Zadar sea organ hadn't been built at the time, but that would be the ideal instrument to accompany an alphorn.

She's not bad, is she? Nice bluesy feel to the playing. Drummer wasn't much help.

How long is a bass trombone before they bend it?!

Regards

Coming back from a festival in Prague last year we had the amusement of watching Alphornblaser-Vereinigung, Zurich-stadt laboriously checking in at an adjacent desk. Their Alpenhorns unscrewed and broke down into three or four pieces, fitting into a canvas bag about the same dimension as a large set of golf clubs.

Sadly they weren't made to get one out and play it (presumably to prove it wasn't stuffed full of drugs), unlike our melodeon players who had to give Prague airport a quick chorus of Speed The Plough before they were allowed to check the squeezeboxes in as hand luggage ...

I agree the Zadar sea organ is amazing. Thank you for the link of that. I hope it is isolated though I would hate to have that thing in my backdoor lol. It would be worst than those folks up in Indiana that were complaining about the amish kids hooking up blasting car stereos to thier horse drawn carriages. You know how annoying it is when a car cruises by you with the radio and subs booming and thumping? Imagine that except nothing enclosing it and it going by at a snails pace lol.

The sea organ is great though beautiful.

Here's a link to a carbon fiber collapsable alphorn

and to

traditional alphorns made in Canada.

I've wanted one of these for years.
