Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Barbara Date: 29 May 09 - 04:57 PM Ooops, except it ate my mudcat cookie along with the rest of them. That was me. Blessings, Barbara and could one of you clever folks be able to tell me where I can list cookies that I want to be excepted from the general wipe? |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: GUEST Date: 29 May 09 - 03:01 PM Thanks to Jim Dixon; now that I know where those switches are, I've reset the parameters and FF loads much faster. Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: GUEST,The Lemonade lady Date: 29 May 09 - 10:04 AM Have you switched off your router lately and do you defragment regularly? |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Artful Codger Date: 29 May 09 - 04:42 AM One thing that will speed Firefox significantly--and increase your surfing pleasure--is to install an ad-blocker extension. I use Adblock Plus. Hey, I'd even accept slower performance to avoid all the annoyvertising. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Tootler Date: 28 May 09 - 08:33 PM I am using Firefox 3.0 in Linux and it works fine. I also use Firefox (not sure which version - I haven't updated it recently) in Windows with no problems so far. The Windows (WinXP, SP3) version takes a little longer to load than the Linux version, but once loaded both seem about the same. I have found the IE tab very useful for testing updates to my website as well as for viewing "IE Specific" sites. It's a pity it isn't available for the Linux version. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: wysiwyg Date: 28 May 09 - 03:48 PM Great tip, Jim. I didn't realize I had history set at 180! Yikes! I cut it to 75 days so it always goes just beyond the month's range and it's cut the CPU load to 1/4 of what it was, according to Task Manager. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: kendall Date: 28 May 09 - 11:41 AM I took Carol's hint and it works. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Jim Dixon Date: 28 May 09 - 11:30 AM Try clearing your history cache. (Here's how: Tools/Options/Privacy/Clear Now.) Then check your options. Mine was set at "Keep my history for at least *90* days." I changed it to 5 days. Firefox worked fine for me at first and gradually got slower. I eventually figured it was because I had an enormous cache. Firefox has to load this cache into memory each time you start Firefox. Then it has to update it with a new URL each time you view a new page. Then, for each link on the new page, it has to scan its own list to find matching URLs, so it knows whether to display the link in blue or pink. I guess this can take a long time. Let me know if this works. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Bill D Date: 28 May 09 - 09:10 AM If ANY browser gets much slower, it may be because of what you have it set to do. If you have multiple tabs open, or many 'sessions' saved, or a very long 'history' in Mudcat....etc., it can take awhile. My Opera loads slower than Firefox, because I have asked it to load with stuff I looked at days or weeks ago. If it gets too slow, I turn most of those tabs into bookmarks and close the tabs. If a browser merely runs slowly, as in slow to load pages, it is harder to figure out. Perhaps it is sorting out cookies and javascripts, depending on where you are surfing. But there should be only minor differences between the major browsers in loading time and surfing time.....it is unlikely to be a flaw in the browser. The only way to diagnose the situation would be to review your setting and browsing habits. But...if you want a really, really fast browser, try K-Meleon ( |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: GUEST,Jon Date: 28 May 09 - 08:54 AM I think it means you should consider updating, Sandra, |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: bobad Date: 28 May 09 - 08:50 AM Running version 3.0.10 here, no problems. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 28 May 09 - 08:45 AM I have no trouble - I'm using 2.0.0.20 (whatever that means!) on a Mac. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: GUEST,Jon Date: 28 May 09 - 08:07 AM We (Pip's PC and mine) use Firefox (currently 3.0.10) on Linux. No problems here. |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: CarolC Date: 28 May 09 - 07:58 AM Firefox works fastest for me. It was getting slow for a while, but it turned out I needed to download and install the latest version. The version I was using had become obsolete, and wasn't working properly or very fast. Now that I have the latest version installed, it's working faster than any other browser for me (the others I've used are Explorer, Safari for Windows, and Google Chrome). I've partially solved the problem of Explorer being too slow by downloading a Firefox add-on that lets me open Explorer in a Firefox tab. It's a really great add-on. Download IE Tab add-on |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: treewind Date: 28 May 09 - 07:43 AM I use both Chrome on Windows and Firefox on Linux regularly and haven't noticed anything amiss. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: Lox Date: 28 May 09 - 07:32 AM no trouble ... Still works like a charm for me ... |
Subject: RE: Mozilla Firefox From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 28 May 09 - 07:23 AM I use Google Chrome sometimes. |
Subject: Mozilla Firefox From: kendall Date: 28 May 09 - 07:18 AM Is anyone else having trouble with Mozilla? IT is and has been slower than death for the past few months. I switched to it because I wasn't happy with IE. Now, IE is much faster. |
