Subject: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: michaelr Date: 28 May 09 - 08:48 PM I much prefer her singing to Susan's, and her flute playing, as well. Another fine singer with a mature, sensuous voice. |

Subject: RE: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: magb Date: 29 May 09 - 08:28 PM Hello My friend Debra told me about this thread. Thanks you two - how very sweet! I was thinking of introducing 'I dreamed a dream' into my repertoire....not. I love Susan Boyle, and have been thinking through the family tree for a connection - to no avail. She does actually resemble my grandmother in her younger days, but I don't suppose there is anything surprising about that - being from similar stock. Anyway, good luck to her. I hope she can survive it all. Bet she doesn't write in to mudcat! So much better to be a folkie. Love Maggiex |

Subject: RE: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: Pistachio Date: 29 May 09 - 09:29 PM My daughter watched a repeat of "Britain's got talent" last Monday morning and I told her that they'd filmed the wrong venue ---there was much more real talent within Hodgsons Pub, Beverley, the previous evening (after the Heritage (boat) festival). I think it's wonderful for the likes of Susan Boyle to have been noticed but frankly I don't think the country needs to watch so little talent on the box. Keep music live and don't deal in winning all the time. I'd listen to Maggie sing anything she chooses and await BeverleyF'vals' Richard Wastling Memorial Concert next month. Sorry I got an overtype gremlin at work up there. Maybe she'll try Tatjiana, by Linda Kelly? Any song will do'. Hazel.x |
Subject: RE: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: GUEST,Gordon T Date: 30 May 09 - 04:41 AM .... and dont forget Gary Boyle - what will he sing next? We're being quietly overrun by singing Boyles. It would be mildly interesting to hear Maggie sing Tatiana - a challenge I think - I've only heard it once, but I hope I'm not offending anyone by saying it went straight to the top of my list of worst songs ever written- up there with "Little Boxes", "Spirit In The Sky" and other monstrosities.Makes Leonard Cohen look like a stand-up comedian.Ooops sorry - only my jaded opinion;-) |
Subject: RE: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: The Sandman Date: 30 May 09 - 06:06 AM Last Goodbye,is by the other Dick Miles, the CW singer, and must be one of the most sentimental mawkish compositions ever written. Maggie Boyle is a fine singer,I would suggest, the snow it melts the soonest or Down the moor and through the heather,or the mountain streams where the moorcocks. Gargoyle,[or whoever it is that is responsible ]if it is you that is sending me E mails about the last Goodbye, please note they are being spammed. |

Subject: RE: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: Willa Date: 30 May 09 - 09:21 AM Looking forward to seeing/hearing Grace Notes at the Bev Festival and, yes, Hazel, the Richard Wastling Memorial Concert line-up looks great - a fitting tribute. |
Subject: RE: What should Maggie Boyle sing next? From: magb Date: 31 May 09 - 07:55 PM Thank you one and all, for comments & suggestions Some brief responses. Dick - I might try the snows. (Mal from our folk club suggested it recently too). The others I have sung many times over the years, so you obviously know my style. Hazel - it's definitely time for another Linda Kelly song as you say. But still - after all this time -l can't envisage not doing Northern Tide on a Grace Notes gig. Michael - nothing new happening soon unfortunately (last one was 'Sketch" in 2008), though I have a threequarters-recorded solo album that's been in the works for years now! See some of you at Richard's concert, and more along the road..... Maggiex |
