From the details below, it sounds as though this is part of a longer song. I've failed to find any reference to the song or EJ Watson.

THE SONG OF THE MINERS

Loud the voice of Justice ringeth,
It hath roused us from our sleep,
To the darksome mine it cometh
Where the pain is dark and deep,
For the seeds of love have quickened
And the reapers press to reap,
And Labour marches on.

Chorus

Lo! the workers' day is dawning!
Cowards pale at freedom's warning,
Glorious breaks the gladsome morning,
And Labour marches on.

In the murky mines we burrow,
In the temples of the dead,
Massing riches for the rich man
Whilst our children cry for bread,
But a sunray's pierced the gloaming
And the weary night has fled -
And Labour marches on.

Words: "from The Song of the Miners by E.J.Watson, sung by Bristol socialists to the tune of John Brown's Body."

This comes from a copy of an illuminated scroll presented to Tony Benn, the Labour MP, in July 1983.

The inscription at the bottom says:

"to Tony Benn: 'freedom's warning' in Bristol since 1950. In gratitude from his comrades. July 1983"

Thanks, Guest Sheila - I had almost forgotten about this. Now that I know what I'm looking for, I think I know someone who might have a copy.
