Maybe if you read Nuttys directions again, and look out for helpful campsite directional signs you'll have little bother. Sorry I can't remember the route myself until I 'see' familiar sights.

Grr, it won't be the same without Moor and Coast - does anyone know if there will be any alternative catering on the site? Still, there are plenty of cafes and takeaways in Uppermill.

The toilets and showers on the site are a bit basic - they're really just changing rooms for the sports field. And bring a torch for any nocturnal visits!

As other people have said, the main problem with the campsite is that it gets soggy after it rains. It's a fantastic location though - and it's the best small folk festival that I've been to, lots going on in the village and very friendly.

Thanks nutty, we live in South Manchester and think the route through Oldham looks ok. The route back may need to be different because of tight and blind bends

It obviously depends which side of Manchester but the easiest route seems to be

M60

A62 to Oldham

A669 Oldham to Greenfield

At Greenfield Station - turn right into Shaw Hall Bank Road

then left into Chew Valley Road (still A669)

Then 2nd left into Wellington Road (the campsite entrance is at the very end)

Others may have other advise - this is just possible one route

Hi! to Soldier Boy. Saddleworth is and always has been in Yorkshire.How else would the camping be such good value. I did hear that some festivals in Lancashire are charging more than that.So come to dear old Saddlewoth if you want a holiday for when it`s finnished raining you can help us with the hay.(H.B. We had a walk around Delph today, then parked at the running track / campsite and walked into Uppermill. A brilliant site and a great place for a festival.

I have to say that it is my fault for having a caravan and trying to take it to this festival but perhaps some advice on routes in and out from Manchester would help me not to cause much unhappiness to my self and fellow drivers?

Yes. Good point Bernard. 'Saddleworth' is a fairly large district in Lancashire - just over the 'Yorkshire' border which (if coming over from Yorkshire) you enter via the A62 from Marsden,Slaithwaite and Huddersfield et al through the Colne Valley.
If travelling from Yorkshire just follow above route. Once you have climbed up the hill (avoiding the sheep) onto the moors,gone through a cutting and then started to drop down hill look out for the second turning on the left signposted UPPERMILL - This is where the festival is.

Also,just so there is no confusion or deterrant for tent-dwelling campers arising from jeddys'innocent remark that "the campsite for Saddleworth is on a gravel running track" - please note that all caravans,campervans and cars etc 'camp' on the very large and extensive gravel running track but all tents are pitched on good old grass on the playing fields (something like 4 or 5 or more! football/rugby pitches)and surrounding grassed areas.

It's a huge campsite that can accomodate ALL festival goers and you do not need to have a full weekend festival ticket to camp here. Anyone can camp here so you will find that the festival also has an extremely strong 'fringe'element and many of the excellent hostelries in Uppermill will be full of music and song.

Even better is the price. Only £10 per person for the full weekend (up to 4 nights). That's what I call value for money!

This site can get rather water-logged in wet weather so tent dwellers need to be careful where they pitch their tent (not in dips/depressions - especially around/outside the football/rugby pitches)but usually apart from that there is no real problem for tents.

The running track however does collect surface water which can be pretty deep and cover a large area. So many vehicles can end up being sat in a small lake of water.

The moral of this story for all campers is........bring yer wellies!!

Just one teensy point, which always seems to confuse newcomers... there is no village called 'Saddleworth'! So don't look for it!

The festival is in Uppermill in the parish of Saddleworth, and access to the campsite is up the road in Greenfield!

The road to the campsite i.e.Wellington Rd.is best approached from Uppermill(A670)then slip road to left(Chaple Rd.)left at the bottom, past new pub (Kingfisher)then left into Wellington Rd.Please be warned if you approach from Oldham(A669 then A670)you either have a very steep hill to decend with sharp bends or a tight "U" turn at Chaple Rd.Hope this is of some help if rather long winded.Rgds. Yes good access and egress

Field is very flat, but access point is away from the village of Saddleworth but once there a short walk over the field to the village and a number of very folk friendly pubs like the Wagon and Commercial and Uppermill Conservative club

The Greenfield Conservative club is used for events too

The running track gets very full if its wet, but there's plenty of room on the rest of the field (if the weather is good!)
Echo the comment about finding it - put the postcode into multimap and have a look at the arial photo - that really helped us the first time we went.

the campsite for saddleworth is on a gravel running track getting on and off isn't a problem as long as you park the van with your' a frame and coupling hanging over the gravel.

finding it can be a bit of a nightmare it is down a road that just looks like it goes to a factory but the road widens out and down the bottom is a wide gate. once you find the right road it is easy we might come visiting for the day so might see you there!

Is it easy to get a caravan on and off and is it reasonably flat?
