Subject: Lyr Req: Words to 'Hot Meat'? From: GUEST,Dave T, far north of Scotland Date: 02 Jun 09 - 03:44 AM About 12 years ago, while visiting the States, I learnt a superb song, "Hot Meat" from an American at a "Squeezebox" convention in Massachusetts (spelling?). I'm missing a few key phrases here and there, and would like to fill them in properly. All I know is that is by an English "folkie" songwriter, but I can't recall his name. Any offers? The song appears to be an anti-vegetarian paean, but soon shows that that ain't quite what it's about... Very witty and well worded... Cheers, Dave T, Findhorn, nr. Inverness |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Words to 'Hot Meat'? From: GUEST,Dave T, far north of Scotland Date: 02 Jun 09 - 07:02 AM Thanks Gargoyle, but couldn't really do that, since I would effectively be publishing most of the song without being able to credit the writer... I'd much rather find out who's song it was, and go from there. [Being a minor songsmith myself, my motives for doing things this way aren't entirely un-selfish!] But to identify the song, it starts: "Well, Miss Wilkie had an appetite that could not be denied..." |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Words to 'Hot Meat'? From: Skivee Date: 02 Jun 09 - 11:01 AM Nick was a very witty man, and a demon on several style concertinas. He could invent complex arrangements on the spot for anything from Morris tunes to classical pieces. It's good to see that though Nick is gone, his meat lives on. |
Subject: Lyr Add: HOT MEAT (Nick Robertshaw) From: Jim Dixon Date: 03 Jun 09 - 06:17 PM From the web site at the above link: HOT MEAT (Nick Robertshaw) CHORUS: Hot meat, hot meat, it's the only thing to eat, The meal to satisfy you from your head down to your feet. The carrot and the cucumber they simply can't compete With nature's finest pleasure, hot meat, hot meat. 1. Miss Willkie had an appetite that couldn't be denied, For vegetables and fruits had left her quite unsatisfied, A yearning empty space that needed filling up inside With something warm and firm and thick, so this is what she tried: CHORUS 2. So she went to see the butcher, a man of great renown. His meat was recommended by the hungriest girls in town. It was so plump and juicy; it was famous through the land, So she thrilled with great excitement when he put it in her hand. CHORUS 3. He said, "For very best results, don't boil it in a pot, But lard it very carefully and handle it a lot, And you must preheat your oven, and when it's good and hot, Just pop it in and baste it well with all the juice you've got." CHORUS 4. Well, she followed all the recipe and cooked it half the night, And the meal so satisfied her that she cried out in delight, But when she took it from her oven, she observed with great surprise That she must have overdone it for it had shrunk to half its size. CHORUS 5. So to every girl and woman, spinster, widow, bride, and wife, If you want the finest pleasures from this fleeting earthly life, A lovely snoozly feeling, a smug and happy grin, A misty light within your eyes and gravy on your chin— CHORUS |
